Hey bronco fans,

I'm installing manual gauges in my 89 xlt / 302.

The volt meter was easy, oil pressure shouldnt be a problem.

but the water temp is a bit more troublesome. does anyone know of a place on the drivers side on block preferably as close to firewall as possiable to hook up temp probe????? the temp probe on the autometer gauge isnt long enough to make it to the front of the block. any ideas?????????

What I need is about another 24" on the line from the gauge

Thanks for any help :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

:( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I would like to place it close to the thermostat but the line isnt long enough. Sure seems like the auotmeter gauges dont have very long lines.

Yep, their product info is kind of lacking compared to other mfgrs., esp SW; SW lists diff lengths of tubing for their gauges, inc. the WT gauges, etc.

http://www.stewartwarner.com/Catalog/2dlx3.html

And they do tell folks Not to cut the tubing length, which is mighty nice of them to let us know before we buy it.

Here is our good friend Sixlitre's Install tips for his 86; I think the pics are missing now bec. SF site is temp down

http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56149

and will post his SF WT gauge URl when SF is back up later

I know that we used to run temp sensors off the side of the block in our 1960's hot rods. seems like we were getting good readings. I would think that getting the block water temp is what one would want not the temp at the t-stat. but maybe my brain is getting frozen up here in the friged north. ITS ABOUT -12 DEGREES RIGHT NOW!!!!

I recall seeing once in Jeg's print manual a kit for a freeze plug adapter w/an NPT fitting; similar to that used for engine block heaters.

Well I got the volt meter in and the oil pressure guage. But still looking for a spot to hook up water temp. The line is just to short. I may have to bag this gauge and get one that has a longer line, like about six to eight feet. Anyone know of what brand woulod have something??

Also VDO sells cap. tubing seperately, but their web site is crap for info on lengths; old info i have in a print catalog shows 72" for & up to 144"

search GOOGLE for vdo capillary tubing

found this;

AUTOMETER Traditional Chrome" Water Temp Gauge part #ATM2433

Well now I have a VDO gauge with 10' line. I can get to front of engine with line. I'm still looking for a place to hook in, what do you guys think about tapping the t-stat housing and putting it there?

That's where sixlitre plaed it in his write-up; see my post above for the Link to his install w/info on being careful about not messing up the t-stat op. GL!
