hey yall im new to the bronco world, but i am injoying it so far. i picked up a 72 bronco with a 302 for essencially free. i wasnt getting any spark past my distributer so i swapped out my points and condensser and she fired right up. ran great for 10 seconds then excessive amounts of gas started shooting out the top. how hard is it to rebuild those old two barrels?

I would add that a clean fuel del. system is important or re-building the carb can be an exercize in futility.

Or at least put a clear plastic or glass filter just b4 the carb inlet until time permits fuel line & tank inspection.

(this is assuming the truck has been sitting for some time)

These carbs are easy.... take some digital pics of the linkage & disassembly if that helps you.

Kits/parts are readily avail. On some of these carbs., the needle & seat can be removed by first removing the fuel line.., W/O removing the carb.

It's common for crud to hold the needle open & cause flooding.

However., having said that.,

"..excessive amounts of gas started shooting out the top"

Not sure what this means..? or how that can happen unless something is broken...? There's NO fuel pressure beyond the needle/seat.

Ya., a video would help. Flooding/rich condition will also have a stinky exaust that sticks to your clothes & nose. :-&

The float & needle/seat work in unison., one or the other stuck will do what you describe.

In several cases., I've fixed this condition W/O buying a kit..., just by removing the top of the carb.

Obviously, if it's real crudy in there.., cleaning & a kit would be in order.

That "mist" is a fuel/air mix...., don't provide an ignition source.

Also, there may be more than one problem in play here. Timing could be off and/or a sloppy timing chain.
