hey guys, been a little while, k heres my question, i talked to you guys a while back about it, but need a few more questions answered before i jump in. i have a 1990 big bronco, 351 EFI, ok i am in the process of putting a MSD 6a ignition amp on, i want to put a MAF vs the old stuff, heard that it does wonders for it. K so is there a kit or something for the MAF, something to make it simple???, k next question, i heard that i have to put in a mustang computer to do this, is that going to ***** with the MSD at all? also coming soon is the edelbrock performer intake manifold and the twin throttle body, so are there any known issues with the setup im gunning for? ok guys thanks again for all the expertise

==========

Speed Density to Mass Air Conversion for Bronco & F 150; "...To convert SD trucks with E4OD/AODE transmissions to MAF, some people use the CA 5.8 MAF/E4OD (F5TF-12A650-BYA). Mike Wesley says he uses the F5TF-12A650-HB (95 CA 5.0 MAF/E4OD) on a 750+ HP daily driver 415 stroker Lightning with a Vortech S trim. It runs open loop, has been reprogrammed, drives like stock, gets 17 MPG and will run low 10’s at 130+ in the 1/4 mile and A/C and cruise work great. Both of these EEC’s are set to use 4.10 gears. If a smaller ratio is used, say 3.55, you could use the F5TF-12A650-GB. There are probably 15-20 EEC’s available to convert a SD (later model) to MAF (some of these may compromise the ability to stay emissions legal). If you have an early SD truck with AOD, re-wire to the Mustang EEC (Ford MotorSport sells this kit). You’ll have to move/add quite a few wires, and you might not like the results if you’re not able to re-calibrate the EEC (like the Pro-M ’low cost’ kit, Kenne Bell, LCA and Downs Ford come pre-re-calibrated). The engine shuts down at 85 MPH, shifting is fairly sloppy and too early (at least on a Lightning). All Ford EECs shift poorly -- except for the Lightning, which is only slightly firmer. To use the Mustang EEC on a truck with an E4OD/AODE, you would need to run two EECs in parallel. The Mustang EEC runs the engine, the existing truck EEC controls the trans. Pro-M sells a kit like this..." READ MUCH MORE

hey thanks for all the info lol ive been reading all morning, the problem ive been running into, i think ford discontinued the kit they had, my truck is already EFI and has the auto trans (e4od) i believe, i have the little push button for the overdrive on the dash. so saying that i would need the 94 and up bronco computer, and the plumbing everything else is pretty much ready from what ive read. do you know any places or somewhere else that i can look other than the obvious , bronco graveyard, summit racing, jegs, lol the last project i was working on was a 98 mustang gt, the parts and kits for that thing where so easy to find it was stupid lol, but this dam bronco lol its getting a little tiring looking for all these kits and everything, im just not that into putting parts from different vehicles on it, i just put a brand new engine so just wanting to go the new route.

yo,

ok

For your tranny type;

Identification; "...If the shifter has a P-R-N-OD-D-1 pattern, the transmission must be an AOD (applicable to 1980-1993 vehicles).

If a 1989-1993 truck has an Overdrive Cancel Switch and a P-R-N-OD-2-1 shifter pattern, then it is equipped with an E4OD transmission...."

He was asked a few times about his vehicle but never replied; I think he has a manual tranny based on what he wrtoe.

So the computer and harness needs to be researched; if you can get in touch w/Ryan M (Fireguy50) he can help you out.

and as C. Asaravala at fordmuscle.com via web.archive.org wrote;

"...There are several ways to go about making the conversion on 1987 to 1993 pickups or Broncos. However the preferred method largely depends on the type of transmission you have. If your truck has the E4OD automatic transmission (typical on the 351 and 460 equipped trucks and 93-95 Lightnings) then you have to consider that this transmission is controlled via the engine's computer. The most common mass air conversion calls for using the 88-93 Mustang computer, which does not have E4OD control. The options in this situation are to use a 1995 or 1996 F-150 or Bronco computer, as by that year the trucks were mass-air and all running E4OD's.

Other E4OD owners have creatively performed the mass-air conversion using the Mustang computer to control all the engine functions, while retaining the stock speed density computer to handle the electronic transmission. Finally, many have taken the more drastic approach and replaced the E40D with an AOD, C6 or manual gear box. Either way, if you have an E4OD equipped F-150, Bronco or Lightning and want mass air, you have some research to do. Spend some time at the National Lightning Owners Club (http://www.nloc.net/) and you'll get plenty of ideas..."

yeah, i have the electric OD switch,so i know its the E40d, i did a little more research after posting that the other day, so i understand what needs to happen, i was just looking for the easy way 0ut i guess lol, nothing like a kit so you just have to order one thing you know. but yeah, i did send rjm an email, so hopefully he can work some magic for me. so do you guys think that this is really worth it? i understand to do extreme cams and things like that you have to, but my plans are

1)Edelbrock performer intake manifold with matching throttle body

2)upgraded ignition system + msd ignition amp

3)MAF

4)Slightly aggressive cam (when i replaced the engine they had an option for that so why not)

thats it as far as the engine, hopefully that will open it up a bit, i already have shorty headers and full exhaust on there, after that its all about the lockers and getting it in the air
