i have heard of springs on these trucks doing this but i never have seen one do this with a 6" spring. the rule of thumb is that the taller the coil spring, the more likely of a chance for the spring to do this. basically the taller the spring is, the more probability if it 'bending'. hence a shorter spring wont flex as bad as a tall spring will. this is the first 6" spring ive heard or seen of doing this although i have seen a 8" coil do this. the only things i can think of would be what kind of driving you do? is it hard starting and stopping or is it four wheeling? if you do a lot of hard accelerating and stopping, the constant hard jolt of the weight of the truck rocking back and forth could weaken the springs enough to make them flex this bad.

i've seen this quite a few times actually. it's not that uncommon. just means that you have a super soft spring. meaning that you have a very nice on the pavement drive and it doesn't feel like it's driving like a tank down the road.

you may want to contact cage offroad and talk to them about their "shock hoops" i know this something that they sell with the solid axle swap kit cuz of it being such a common problem

here's a pic from the cage site of what you are asking for. it's the silver piece at the top of the coil spring bucket

I agree with miss kitten you just have what they call soft ride springs....we put a six inch lift on my son's 92 explorer like that and everytime he wpuld back up the front of the truck would dip down and raise up on take off...the hoop she showed you looks like it would work better tahn trying to change springs again...my son went with the skyjacker springs and now wishes tht he'd left them on there now...the ride is not as good.... the shock hoops will also give more shock travel too

if you look at the different mounting spot for the dual shocks it's alot higher then stock

EDIT: when you put the lift kit in, did you use extended radius arms, or are you still using the stock radius arms? if you didn't put the extended arms on that could be the source of your problem right there.

second that. if you arent using exted arms and the stock ttb arms thats probably where your binding is coming from. basically at full extension things may be find but under compression your spring is trying to compress in an unlinear fashion(if thats even a word).

i got 6" radius arm drop brackets in it but u saying i might need extended ones?? but yes my bronco rides like a dream and i dont have ANY sway bars on it. its kinda ridiculous how well it rides... even at 90 mph(love those BFG mudds). 4 wheel parts helped install the lift so its done right. would a air bag system upfront , u know the one that goes in middle of front spring. i do love the way it rides and if stiffer springs means tougher ride well that sux. my end up putting front sway bar back on if thats the case.

u can kinda c the brackets in pic

i don't think i explained myself clear enough

i'm asking about the extended radius arms themselves not just the drop brackets

here's a picture of my extended ra's to give you a better idea of what i'm talking about

think about the travel of the arm. the extended ones have a longer "swing" so there is more up/down motion and less forward/back motion. With the stock RA relocation bracket you still have the same arc path, you are just moving its starting point so it has more of a tendency to pull/push the spring around. Not saying this will fix your spring issue but i wouldnt be surprised if it did.

ds, it looks like from the first pic that your caster is severe enough to put alot of stress on the lower spring mount and causing the springs to bow. In stock form, the bottom of the spring is nearly level with the ground, and the caster is near zero. By lifting the front 6" with drop brackets and the stock radius arms, that tends to pull the whole TTb axle back and up toward the bottom of the floor. this increases the caster angle, which is a line drawn thru the upper and lower balljoints. you're sorta going from this: I to this: \. The best solution as already posted is to remove the drop brackets for the stock radius arms and install a pair of extended arms. These move the pivot point further back on the frame of the arms, and reduce the extreme caster bringing it closer to stock setting. Replacing the coils with a stiffer set may not help much. I had the same problem on my 84 Bronco with the 6" SkyJacker kit. While I ordered it with the extended arms, they were on back order for a few weeks. i went ahead and installed the rest of the kit with the stock arms and drop brackets so I could make a car show. Once I installed the longer arms, the spring bow went away. JSM84

Are the springs sitting correctly in the lower and upper cups? They should have a relief for the spring ends to sit in. If they are not seated correctly it might cause them to wander from center.

They appear to be in the proper position in the second pic, but that is a good question. A side pic with the tire removed would be better, something like this one:

JSM thats a good catch with the caster angle, I think your onto something. I wonder if they gave you Radius arm drop brackets for a 4 inch kit rather than a 6 inch.

DSGB did you ever resolve this issue? I just installed a lift on my 96 Bronco 3 months ago and just noticed I have the same problem on the drivers side.
