Today I ordered a k&n intake kit for my bronco. It apparantly fits at the end of the mass air flow sensor. It is just the k&n cone filter. It is not the complete kit, but to me it would work the same because there is nothing else restricting the air flow. Have any of you tried these basic kits and did you notice any power gains?

I have the same kit on The Beast..........It's good when driving at highway speeds, but lousy around town and when at lights. The intake temp goes to Pluto! There is no way to draw cooler outside air. I'm working on building an air box to get outside air to the cone. (bought The Beast with it there..so no box)

Can't say if there is any performance increase, as I said, it was installed when i got my truck.

Ron,

the easiest route would be to go to a ******* an dget the OEM duct work.. The OEM pulls cold air from the front of the grill, instead from under the hood.

There is actually no advantage to a KN filter on a stock engine. As alluded to by Ron, it becomes a hot air intake not a cold air intake. Also, the existing filter system, which as Joe mentioned gets it's air from outside the engine compartment and you can't get any colder than that. The existing filter system is also already capable of supplying more air than a stock engine is capable of gulping down. KN is primarily hype when it comes to stock engines, kinda like putting a playing card in the spokes of your bicycle, makes a lot of cool noise but that is all you get.

Im thinking of cutting a section of the plastic above the tire and somehow making it so the fiter is supplied cold air passing under the vehicle. I know that my intake is supplied by air passing through the gap between the hood and gril. im not sure why ford did this but to me it seems restrictive.

I'll assure you that the stock intake is large enough to supply more air than a stock engine can gulp down. It was done that way to get a ram air effect since it is aimed directly into the air stream. But after all it's your money and truck :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

Thanks Joe,

Can't find any decent boxes in yards around here. Seems guys keep their trucks until they are truly trash. Also found the heat, (under hood and ambient. it's 87 here today!) makes the plastic so brittle it brakes easy. But will keep looking......and trying a plactic box from Ikea, and insulated aluminum dryer duct....or PVC....it's a thought that has turned into a quest...

Thanks Again

I have had a cheap spectre intake on the bronco before and what I noticed was a smoother acceleration. I went and picked up the k&n intake today and its pretty interesting according to the directions the cone mounts to where my airbox was but the snorkle is kept and zip tied to the fender well, this makes it so cold air is supplied from the the outside. I will post results after instalation.
