I think the filter itself is worth the $50-$60, as you can use it forever and ever with proper cleaning and oiling. I'm not too thrilled with the K&N FIPK kit for the EFI engines. While the added power can be there, the $250 price tag is too high, IMO. Get'em at your local auto parts store or any of the online sites like Summit Racing, Jeg's, JC Whitney, etc.

Check the message boards and eBay, maybe you can find them cheaper.

IMO the K & N is worth getting but I have to agree with JSM about the price.

The K&N is a decent filter. It's worth it just not to have to buy another one, but don't get too excited expecting a big HP change. You'll hear more difference than you feel.

Look around, a lot of people have made their own kits for far less than what you'd pay a store. Not a real complicated thing to build.

you can get the big cone filter, and make your own FIPK kit. it really isnt hard at all. just use PVC pipe that is the same diameter to mate the filter to the intake tubes.

*note* this will work for speed density rigs, not sure on MAF

Can you give me an idea of how to go about building one of these FIPK's for my 1990 bronco w/ 302.

If you search this topic, you'll find one or two of the members has a "custom-made" intake kit. I want to say Shadow D, but don't quote me on that!!!

I just checked here in Newfoundland and the price for the FIPK is $380, definately not worth it. Still lookin for diagrams or somethin to guide me in constructing my own kit.

shyguy, its really easy. basically, go find the part number for just the cone filter that normally comes with the FIPK kit and buy just the filter. then go pick up a short (3 ft would be more than enough) length of PVC pipe that is just big enough to fit inside the outlets on the filter and the intake hoses coming from the throttle body. then get a small strip of metal and fabricate and L bracket ( shaped like an L) to hold the filter. this bracket will be installed so that the L is flipped upside down, with the horizontal part fastened to the lip on the inner fender. you'll see what im talking about when you pop the hood. then, if you like, you can fabricate another smaller bracket to support the PVC pipe. don't forget to tie your PCV breather into it at some point.
