i just picked up a 93 ford bronco cheap, and it's got some major issues.

-the wires for the rear window were cut by previous owner to make a trailer harness (WHY?!??!) and i think it's knocked out the four wheel drive (does'nt engage, no lights for 4x4), the power locks do not work.

-the transmission linkage is funny and the gears clunk hard every shift forward and reverse. please tell me it's all because of the linkage, i do not want to replace another e4od.

the steering and brakes are soft both feel funny, have'nt investigated that yet.

my main concenrs are the wiring (if anyone has a diagran or can tell me what goes to what, that would be awesome) and the transmission clunking (common or no?)

please help me before i give up on another bronco.

Power window diagram attached. By the way all wheel drive and power locks are run from the same fuse that powers the tail gate switch, see diagram. He probably popped fuse 12.

Good luck,

i put a 20amp circuit breaker in for the #12 and now the 4x4 is permanently engaged (hubs? since they are electronic) and the theft light keeps flashing

any ideas?

d'oh!

i was hoping it was the hubs

that means this thing has been in 4x4 for god knows how long

what does this mean for the transmission?

the t-case motor isnt worth fixing. its easier to go pick one up from a junkyard for like 250 and install it. super easy, takes 10 minutes

Being in 4WD should not cause a problem with the transmission. It will give you poorer than normal milage because of the extra drag on the engine. Being there for extended lengths of time at highway speed might cause extra ware on the front end components.

The recent number of posts involving 95 Broncos and their interdependent electronically controlled systems, has just convinced me I'm right about having so many things electronically controlled is a PITA. The more things that are electronically controlled the higher the failure rate. The mechanical stuff works just fine but the controll circuits ****. Boy am I glad I have hand crank windows, manual locks, manual 4x4, carbed engine, mechanical speedometer, good old power brakes, mechanically shifted transmission, a simple ignition, etc. etc. etc.

Yah, that fuse definately has an effect on the 4x4 shift control motor. I think I'd take it in to a dealer.
