Hi!! I have my son's 1984 full size Bronco while he's away at college and i am doing some work on it to get it back to near original condition as a suprize for him when he returns.

To save funds, i am doing alot of the work myself. I am concentrating on the interior at the moment.

I have come across a problem with the dash lights. They don't work at all whether the headlights are on or not.

I have checked the fuses etc. to no avail and i cant believe that all the bulbs have burned out.

Please give me any suggestions as to how to trace this problem an remedy it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to All, Bronco Mom[email protected]

Make sure the fuses are the proper size. Another possiblitly is the headlight switch mine went out and i could have dash lights or headlights but no running lamps, try playing with it and see if they will show in a little spot.

Bronco mom... Nice! :rolleyes:

I bet its in the headlight switch. Usually you have to turn the **** to the left or right to increase/ decrease the light. These fail and lose conection and are not that expensive to replace. If that doesn't fix it at leadt you know its out of the loop.

Then try replacing one easy to get to bulb and see what happens. Then its tracing the wiring and make sure you have the correct fuses.

The dimmer part of the light switch controlls all dash ligts,ut there are two fuses involved. F4 (15A) feeds the portion of the switch that contains the dimmer function. The output of the dimmer feeds F17 (5A), from F17 then to the instrument cluster, defrost control Illumination, heater A/C control Illumination, Windshield wiper Controll Illumination, Radio Illumination and ash Tray Illumination.

If any of the above work then it is not the switch or the dimmer portion of the switch. If none of them work the problem is one of the following;

1 The Light switch as previously mentioned

2 Fuse 17

3 the contact on the connector to the light switch

4 The wire from the light switch to F17 and back to above mentioned devices.

(this wire is light blue with a red tracer)

Good luck,

:)>-
