Okay guys, I have set fuel pressure at 35psi, turned engine until number 1 cylinder is TDC and have verified that distributor is pointing at number 1. I have also pumped oil thru out engine to ensure I do not have a "dry start", being this is new motor.

I tried to start and engine acts like it wants to crank, but not turning over and catching. Rather than burn up starter circuit, I am wondering if there is anything I have overlooked or should double check. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that will have me back in the street tomorrow? Thanks

Put a finger over #1 spark plug hole...crank eng. ....when you get a puff past your finger, you're on "compression stroke" ......now check/line up timing mark & rotor to #1 plug wire.

If all plugs removed...you can crank by hand...much better.

Yes I agree it absolutely must be on top dead center compression stroke and make sure you have the correct firing order for the cam you installed . Distributor turns counter clockwise so where your rotor is pointing you will start there for number one and the rest will go to the left around the cap . My 89 wouldnt start right away the motor was very tight and I had to hook jumper cables up to a fully charged battery to get it to start the first time . Now it barely rolls over 2 times and its running . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
