I just bought a 1989 bronco, this is the plain jane model if you know what I mean, rubber floors, manual windows, 4 speed manual.... Everything runs really well, I drove it from Portland to my house in Northern Washington, and she ran great. It has a little exhaust leak I think, and every once in a while a little hesitation kind of like a jerking action. This is my first project, I just have no Idea where to start. Maybe an oil change? Any suggestions?

Changing all the fluids when you purchase an older vehicle is always a good idea. That way you know for sure what you've got in there and how long it's been since the last change.

As for your question of where to start, where do you want to end up? If you're just using the truck as transportation and it's running great, why mess with it. (other than routine maintenance, I mean)

Your slight hesitation sounds like it may be misfiring a little. Check the condition of your ignition parts. (plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, etc.)

Also, Welcome to BroncoZone! > If you can, post some pictures of your truck, we all love to look at other peoples toys.

One more thing: above and to the right, there is a link called "my controls" that will take you to a page where you can creat a signature with details about your vehicle. It will help people help you when you ask about things.

Thanks for the fast reply, I think I have a picture I am just working on putting it onthe whole signiture thing. This is my first forum I've ever joined. My bronco is surely not going to be my daily driver, it's my toy. I think I'm going to have to change a seal or two shortly there is leakage going on around my rear axel, is that normal on a bronco? It looks like it was sealed before. I don't know. I'm learning. But thanks for the quick help and the Control feature. Hopefully my Picture will show up this time.

I agree, start with a basic tune-up, change the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, PCV valve, oil & filter, coolant, fuel filter. IF you don't know where everything is on your engine, get a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for 80-96 Ford Bronco. Where is the leak on the rear axle? IF it's near the wheels, it could be the rear brake cylinder (brake fluid) or a seal (gear oil). Good luck, and welcome to Bronco Zone, JSM84
