I'm a Bronco noob - collecting some opinions

I just bought a '66 from Idaho - pretty rust free and somewhat original. My concern of the moment (although I will have many) is the braking system. As I am sure you all know it has the single *** and although I haven't looked I suspect non self-adjusting brakes. Since I bought the vehicle as something fun for me and the kids to enjoy I am seriously considering one of the disc brake kits. The notes on the site I looked at indicate the 6-cylinder is on the low side of vacuum to run them. I have also not yet decided on my long term plans for the vehicle. It is uncut and may be restorable to stock. What would the discs to to resale. Not sure I care, and probably not much will be done until spring. On the other hand - irreversible or hard to reverse changes are a bit scary.

Hi DW.., welcome..!!  

I have the same setup. Stops as good as my F150.  A few hundred $$ & yours could do the same.

We have 4 wheel drum brakes, no adjusters, (but can be added) single reservoir master cylinder.

No power brake booster.

Point being.., Ford didn't build these rigs NOT to stop.!

OR.., somewhere around 1K.., you can have 4wheel disc brakes., which includes the (4) kits,

P/B booster, master cylinder, proportioning valve, dual lines from the M/C, possibly the rubber lines

at each wheel.., along with some other maint. details while it's apart. 

Many disc. kits eliminate the emergency brake.

Some kits include wheel bearings which is recommended.

Thanks, I appreciate the response,  I rambled a bit there in my question, one of my key issues is:

Any ideas on how bad the disc brakes would effect the value if I try to go all stock on this ?

I'll be amazed if it ever goes off road, I bought it because I'm a ford guy and want to run without a top in the brief summer we have in Ohio

Well..., IMHO, going with discs is NOT "all stock"

Most obvious would be the dual M/C & lines to the proper proportining valve..,  

& PB booster ( booster being req. with discs I think)  Also, the loss of the E-brake.

As to value.., no clue.  I doubt it makes any difference.

You & a potential "buyer" would determine that.
