Please bear with me on this long explaination, any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I have a 87 Bronco 4.9L 6cyl. I was having intermittent failure to start issues. sometimes would start perfect, other times i turn the key and got nothing...not even accessories. I had someone hold the key in start position and i would ****** around the wires between the battery and the start solenoid. It seemd that when i disturbed it enough it would start as i moved the wires. I removed all the tape and found that most of those wires had been repaired/spliced previously and none looked all that good. I went to the local salvage yard and bought all the wires to passenger lights, alternator, all wires to solenoid, etc. I repaired/replaced all the wires (which did have the fusible link). I reconnected the battery and my Bronco started right up and ran beautiful so i let it run for 20 minutes or so while i taped and zip-tied the wires to tidy it up. I turned the igniton off and when i went to resatrt it...nothing, no power at all. I turn the key to on and get nothing, not even lights. I have a meter so i tested my battery and between Positve and negative at the battery i have 13 vdc. From neg battery to where positive is mounted on soloenoid it seems to fluctuate. Negative bat cable (from starter to battery is new) Positive (solenoid to starter) is new, ignition switch is new (have replaced it twice in the last year). AGain, I turn the key and get NOTHING....i am pulling my hair out over frustration!!! ANY AND ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...thank you in advance for your responses....

yo Russ!

ok..to guess for you; beginning w/"From neg battery to where positive is mounted on soloenoid it seems to fluctuate" & cable is new;

so let's try wiggling both Battery POSTS to ck for bad batty internals; (post(s) could be loose internally or plates are shorting out @ bottom of battery.

So, test battery between Positve and negative posts and do da wiGGly-jiGGly test on da posts to ck for 12-13 v while wiGGlin'.

am ruling out that da new cables are bad - strands loose within connector/clamp, etc. since you had this prob from git-go

Solenoid (relay) - good, clean n' tight connections?...solenoid posts re good and solid?...

later..gl!

Ditto, and recheck your grounding. Make sure the connections are clean on the engine block and that the connection from the back of the intake manifold to fire wall is good.

Good luck,

:)>-

Would the ground connection from the intake to the firewall prevent the starter from turning if it was not connected?

I would have to say no on the intake ground because I read this and realized where my extra black wire came from. I guess it's a good thing I saved it, now just where did I put that darn thing? Anywho, mine works fine without it when everything is where it's supposed to be it just seems to work so much sweeter!

Hi guys, "I am not trying yo be a smart ass but isn't there a Ford Mech out there that would have the answer

that wouldn't mind helping us ford enthusiests< probably spelled wrong.. But you get the drift

I really don't understand .. I beleive there were mechanics that put them together and trouble shoot them.
