I have a 95, with 351, auto trans, 4x4. The problem i am having is that when it rains or snows the engine idles very rough, the mileage is counting even though not moving, speedo needle goes bezerk, and ABS light sometimes comes on. But once i get going it runs like normal no problems, even at 2 mph still idles great. Once i come to a stop i have the problem. It also does this after truck is washed. I have no clue what it could be or what to look for. Any advice would be great.

check the coil and the coil connections that lead from distributor to the coil. not saying it is but, i had the same issues with mine in the mornings here in L.A. when the air is full of moisture from the ocean air. it was the wire that runs from the distibutor to the coil- the connections that attach to the coil were corroded and the moisture made it worse. eventually it stranded me.

i could be way off base though - wouldnt be the first time.

Sounds good I will look into that and see what I come up with.

it's obviously moisture hindering a connection somewhere...the problem is whare to look for it. i would check all connections around the distributor like ****** was saying. i am sure Sea Bronc will have something to say aboutt his problem. the man is a genius.

I don't think that the speedo would go nuts because of the distributer or the coil but more along the line of the speed sensor in the rear end. When it rains and you drive water gets on it from what I've experienced. Also, you may have a bad magnito thingy on your abs but I'm not sure if that does anything to the speedo?

I agree with the others that moisture is getting into something and causing your problems. I had similar problem on my 96 with speedo jumping 2 -3 mph up and down, tach acting screwy, and engine missing/hard to start in wet weather. I found the spark plug wires were starting to crack and decay. Replaced the wires and problems went away. I think the speedo was effected because on the newer models the speedo is controlled electronicly and the jumping sparks caused some kind of problem in the computer do to sensor inputs.

That last part about the computer is just a guess, but my problems all went away when I changed the wires.

Maybe have a look behind the kick panel on the drivers side. Maybe some water getting into the computer from a leak. Feel around in there for moisture.

yo, try a Self Test for trouble codes, post them here. Then we can narrow down the troubleshooting to specific part(s)

4wabs Self Test Source: by the combo of Chilton, Nichols, Delmar, & Hayne via AutoZone.com

more 4wABS TS Links here:

much cheaper self diagnosis for stored Codes incl. ABS stuff than replacing parts!
