Ok, so I've got to do some planning for a 1971 Bronco. I am running a 1972 Ford 302 that will be stroked to a 331. I need some help choosing parts. What would be the best axles and suspension kits? The uses would be road, and some offroad use. I would like 3-5 inches of lift and a manual transmission. Thanks for the help in advance.

How much offroad and how hard? Snow?

Fire roads dont need any lift

What is the stroking for these bricks already get bad milage and a good 302 will make it down the road just fine. What are your gears in the axles and what is your tranny now? What size tire are you running now and in the future?

Yes, I'm in CT so a lot of snow in the winter. I will not be doing very much offroad, and not very hard. I have not actually bought the body of the bronco yet, I am working on the engine first. I just wanted to know what to buy for the body so that I could choose parts in the engine. Knowing the axles, suspension, and correct manual tranny would help very much. I also would order these as soon as the body is acquired.

if i was you i would definatly us an overdrive transmission, ideally a 5 spd, the 331 is a good idea but it would probably be cheaper to get a 351w. fuel injection would get you better milage. you could probably pick up a 351w from a late 80's to early 90's pickup with the majority of the injection components for well under a grand, i would say 5 inch lift with with 34x10.5 tires. being in ct i would buy a fiberglass body.

I already have the 302, so chances of buying a 351w are out the window. Also, mileage is not an issue. What type of front axle, possibly a Dana 44? And for Rear axles, would a 9in be sufficient. I have heard that dana 60s are the best, but I wont be doing serious offroading, so is the Dana 44 the best choice because of the vast aftermarket support? A new intake manifold, aluminum cylinder heads, and possibly roller cams will be added to the engine. And I have mentioned that the cylinders will be bored, and a 331 stroker kit will be added. I am most likely putting mickey thompson limited edition signature series wheels. 5 inches of lift sounds good, and it is most likely the amount I will be doing. In y'all's experience, would the Dana 44 & 9in combination be the best for my setup?

The drive train is designed for the stock engine. If you seriously beef up an engine or put in a more powerful engine and add big tires, you need to beef up the drive train also. The D60 is a good choice and you can either find a HD44 for the front or go for a solid axle conversion up front. If you don't, it probably won't be long before you have parts all over the road.

Wow this thread is all over the the place. I will give my recommendations. Stock 302 fuel injection, automatic c6 or c4 with stock dana 20 transfer case headers rv type came mild intake( t shift has lower gears) j case is ok too, 4.10 gearing for the axles, dana 44 chromoly shafts open up front(no locker)(good for road use and snow), large bearing 9 inch with 31 spline axles and a detroit locker(arb is cool if the dollars are there), 2.5 or 3.5 lift and 33 by 12.5 inch tires aggresive type but not noisey(not mud tires).Front disc and rear drum brakes power of course, power steering your choice. This will make your look cool and still have great driveablilty and still go on the trails your described and you can hold speed on highway hills(you wont hold speed with an over drive trans). Speed and gears calc out as 33 inch tire 2500 rpm 60 mph, 35 inch tire 2500 rpm 65 mph. So build the motor where your going too run it most. Aka pick the right cam not the bottom of the page cam most apps need a rv type smaller cam for torq and fuel econemy and dont over carb if you go that way 600 cfm for 302 with rv cam and headers is just fine if not too much, you can always rejet for altitude.......

For a mostly street mall cruzer go with the stroker 302(331?) and the 35 inch tires and bling rims and overly agressive and wide tires just dont plan on going far with out a 25 gal rear tank and a side tank what is it 12 gal?? too HAHAHA
