i drive a 94 bronco with a 5L (302 ci) running around 185 hp @ 3800 rpm, and 270 ft/lb @ 2400 rpm. what can i add to my engine to add more horse power and/or torque. and about how much do you think it will add.

How much are you willing to spend? How much work are you willing to do yourself?

Why do you want more?

Does your bronco seem to be a dog?

Are you sure that it is currently running properly? Is the check engine light on?

How long have you had it?

mid quality amount. as much as possible, i even got some friends who are qualified machanics. i need more power to coquer the thick mud, steep obsticles, and to win a some more truck pulls.

its running fine. i've had it about 4 months.

Consider giving her a lift, larger tires and re-gearing. The larger tires will give you better traction, and more height for trails, the regearing will give you the torque needed to drive them.

Regarding the engine, you may consider getting a larger throttle body, and headders.

Here is a thread on regearing.

There is also a pinned one on tires... "what I can run with what" (how much of a lift needed)

good luck and have fun!

Freeing up your exhaust is a good first step, as to what set up talking to your local exhaust shop would be best. A K&N intake would be a good idea too. with both of those upgrades out of the way the next thing to do that would increase power is a chip or tuner of some sort. All these together would probably add 20-40 horse and cost around 750 dollars depending on brands and your exhaust set up

Are the 94 5.0's mass air or are they speed density? If you have mass air, you can do things such as throw a different cam in it. Higher lift on the cam lobe will give you more HP, Longer duration on the cam lobe will give you more torque. Without changing from the speed density computer/bank fire efi setup that came in most 5.0's, anything you do to improve HP or torque (as far as engine mods) won't do much if anything. The computer does not learn...it is pre-programmed for that setup. Whereas, if you were to convert to a mass air (new wiring harness, changing some of the pins on the computer, changing from bank fire injection to sequential port injection) you could put a new cam in it and see major improvement. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. A website you need to check out is http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/ where you can learn sooooo much about all this stuff.

It's been a while. I've sure missed all my Bronco Brothers and Sisters! Hope all is well with everybody!

Jim
