I own a 87 ford bronco, i just bought it and drove it home after having a few things done to it, when i was on the highway and got up to about 65 mph it would start to kick/buck repeatadley and blow out a little bit of black exhaust from the tail pipe, it would do this off and on all the way home, im not sure what the problem is but i need someone to help me figure it out, i need it fixed asap

Hey.. good luck with your new bronco.

Tell us a bit about your new rig.

What kind of engine, and trans. Is it carborated, or EFI?

Was it laying for a while?

When was the last time it had a tuneup, stuff like that.

Did the check engine light come on?

How well does it idle?

Well, as Joe said we need more info.

87 was a transition year. It was the first year for the big-headlight aero look but there were also a lot of things going on under the hood. An 87' could have either fuel injection (on the 302) or a carb (on the 351HO, the standard 351 had been dropped so the ** was the only 5.8 available)

Black smoke *could* be oil, indicating the rings are worn OR it couls also be excess fuel meaning that the truck is running rich. The carb'd 351 is a likely candidate for a rick mixture/black smoke condition. Could be a number of things. IT's worth swinging by an AUtoZone or other parts shop to have them pull any codes that may be in the buffer. The ck engine light is always a clue but it may or may not be working either way it's best to ck it anyways to see if it's thrown any codes.

Give us a bit more info to work with and we'll do our best to help you out as quickly as possibly.

Ok, lets start all over again. We need more info. Help us to help you (damn, now I feel like Cuba Gooding Jr.)

You've told us it's an 87' and that's helpfull but we still need more. Is it a manual or an automatic ? Does it have the 300, 302 or 351 ? Is it fuel Injected or carburated ? Does the Ck Engine light come on or not ? Does the Ck Engine light illuminate when you *first* put the key in & turn it or does it stay dark *all* the time ? Have you *tried* to pull codes from it and if so what was the deal ? What exactly are you doing when the truck behaves like this ? Does it do this ramdomly or are you able to "cause" it to happen or to replicate the problem when you need to ? If you drive in a cartain way are you able to make it NOT do these things ? Have you tried having your father or someone else drive it and seeing if it did the same thing, in the same way as when *you* drive it ? Does it feel like the apark is going away momentarily, them coming back & causing the truck to "kick" all of a sudden ? Does the engine cut out or sound differently when this happens or soes it feel/sound more like a transmission problem ?

Does it blow blk smoke when you first start it ? Does it blow blk smoke if you punch the throttle when driving on the highway ?

Ck the door sticker & let us know what the transmission code is. If it's a manual that's one whole can of worms, if it's an auto it could be either a C6 or an AOD (because, once again, 87's were a trasnition year and there were a lot of different options available as older parts were phased out and newer one phased in. It makes a difference just *what* transmission you have so we need to know & the quickest way is for you to ck the door sticker or let us know what the shift indicator says. is it P-R-N-D-1-2, or P-R-N-OD-D-1, etc, etc). These are the sorts of things we need to know.

Nobody has a problem with helping you solve this quickly, but we DO need answers to specific questions before anyone can suggest anything. Adding ALL the info about your truck to your signature is an excellent way of making sure that anyone trying to help you knows just what you have and can give you advise that makes sense. *nobody* is going to be able to give you any sort of advise about these problems without knowing more about the truck, pls *read* the responses and help us out with more info. Help us help you.
