I fixed it...but how do I solve this?

:D/ I fixed it, I fixed it...LOL.

The vehicle has not overheated on me at all!!! Woohoo...$60 later. I replaced the:

Radiator Cap

Upper Radiator Hose

Flushed the System

Reflushed the System

Replaced the Heater Hose

What I discovered...it's normal for Fords to be a little low on the fluid (not as low as it was but for what I'm seeing now).

The "white" smoke from what I can tell is directly related to the carb. The carb is another long story...has something to do with the pin that is supposed to be in the float. Anyways, I'm not sure how to fix that because the carb has been rebuilt twice I think. Pin wouldn't go in either time. So the "backfire" ...well more like a pop is from the carburetor trying to flood while sitting...when it's flooded that's when we get the "white" smoke.

The carb is supposed to have an electric choke but right now it has a manual choke. So what would be the best way to fix this so it won't flood itself?

Right now I'll put it in neutral and let the higher idle burn the gas off (works like a charm but I bet the people behind me hate it...lol).

I'm going to end up keeping this thing yet and that would mean big trouble for me!!!

I hope I haven't confused anyone.

Yah Wratchet, if it has been rebuilt and still has problems, you need to replace it. Nothing like a good carb and nothing worse than an bad one :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Glad to see you figured out the over heating problem  /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

I just tried to reply to this on my PDA but kept hitting the wrong area on the screen so I would lose everything that I had so tediously :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> typed it. So...back to the big computer...lol.

Anyways, it currently has a 2 bbl carb in it. Yes, I have thought about getting a 4bbl intake manifold and putting a 4 bbl carb on it. Cost issue only on the carb itself...manifold I could get at the junkyard..just haven't done it...cost issue I guess.

The auto parts store wants $135 for a "refurbished" 2bbl carb. Can't get a new one according to the guy I talked to. What's up with that?? /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

My husband got pretty frustrated with it...thus the electric choke going bye bye...so I hate mentioning putting a different carb on it. Although he did mention it earlier but he thought it would be around $50...

Haven't told him the $135...lol.

Some of the old carbs are no longer in production so you choice is either a remanufactured one, supposedly to original specs, or a more modern one. I happen to like Holleys, but they are lousy off road carbs, can't take a steep incline. Believe it or not a 4BBL can get better milage than a 2BBL, just depends on the foot ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . Auto chokes require that the carb is running near perfect or they just add to your problems. On a new carb that is adjusted properly they work just fine. Most people who take of the auto choke and replace it with a manual are actually compensating for other carb problems.

Good luck,

:)>-

Figures...lol.

It wasn't my idea to take it to a manual choke! Husband had his fingers into it. If I go with a 4 bbl carb, I'm going to replace the engine with either a 351 or something bigger. Problem is I haven't had many people interested in it which is quite amazing since it is listed on two bronco forums as being for sale. So maybe I do need to fix it up (lift kits, swampers, paint job...etc) but that would be a long process considering how broke I am at the moment...lol.

I'm not against rebuilding the 302 and putting a 4bbl on it but I'm not exactly for it right now!

If it don't end up selling, I'm going to have to find a place to park it so I can work on it (my mother would **** me if I took it to her place...dad would love it...lol).

Good job on the overheating problem, sounds like you fixxed that!!!

Just wondering if you replaced the lower radiator hose, too. It is a real bear to remove, but should be changed if it's old.

As for the carb, if it is the original one and has been rebuilt a few times, it may be too worn out like Seabronc stated. I had that problem with mine, the accelerator pump was no good. Take a look at the linkage for the choke, be sure it isn't rusted or sticking. Check for any vacuum leaks, too, as they can affect the carb.

I am thinking about replacing the lower hose as well as it doesn't look to difficult to get to. I'm pretty frustrated with the Bronco right now. Get one thing fixed and other problem seems to crop up. I'm half-tempted to cut my losses and see what the junkyard will give me for it especially since I haven't had any offers on the thing and I don't have the money to continue working on it. I'm thinking the engine needs to be either rebuilt or replaced.

I think you are giving in too easily. Have you advertised it in your local paper? How aout ebay? Junk yards generally don't give much for trucks and cars. Did you talk to BLADE262US about a carb?

I've thought about both actually...I might list it on Ebay and take a chance with it...I know I had listed the extra hardtop but I don't even think I can give that thing away!!! I know Blade had mentioned a 4bbl carb...but...somehow I think that got lost in the shuffle of my mind..lol.

I sort of somewhat advertised it in my garage sale ad but didn't do the automotive ad. I've hesitated on the advertising it in the paper to give people who absolutely love Broncos a chance at it. ...but....no takers..

Junkyard would be last resort!!!

I still think about driving it down to my parents and parking it until it can get fixed up but my mother would **** me if I did that.

The money issue...yes I seem to complain about that alot. I didn't want to mention it because I don't want anybody to feel bad or feel that they have to do something but I figure I'll mention why I need the money so bad besides the fact my car needs a new clutch. So here goes...my son's half-brother decided to take his own life this summer. The funeral home wanted $2000 up front. This was borrowed off a credit card and it ended up getting treated like a cash advance. So needless to say the $2000 has ended up being a lot more to pay back than originally planned. So needless to say that's an unexpected expense...and a big one.

I spent the $60 to get the Bronco to stop overheating because that's just something that needed to be done otherwise people wouldn't want it. Now I'm frustrated because the engine is probably going to need some work done to it...I'm not 100% sure the overheating problem is fixed...thus the engine work..

Anyways, we essentially live off my husband's salary because I am what they call a domestic engineer...lol. Actually I have a lot of medical problems that keep me going to the doctor and work wouldn't be feasible. I work on the Bronco when I feel half-way decent (which isn't often).

My husband does make good money but like I said that $2000 wasn't expected so it's been hard to figure it all into the budget of paying bills. We're getting things figured out but it's been a slow difficult process. We were doing okay until July 30th and then it all went downhill.

So we made the decision to sell the Bronco and see if we can get at least a portion of what we put into it back. I had a garage sale but it didn't do as well as expected.

Now that you've heard all of that...that's why I "complain" about money so much. I'm one of those people that are really proud and usually don't ask for help or anything like that and that is why I've been trying to come up with ideas to get extra money and such but it's been a long process. Garage sale, consignment shop, sell the Bronco, get ex to pay me more child support...etc.

You know, I'd love to be able to fix the Bronco up and make it look like some of the pics I've seen on the different Bronco forums...that would be quite an accomplishment...but...well you know.

Anyways, so if anybody in here wins the lottery...please think about me. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Sorry to ramble on so long but I believe in honesty (as you can probably tell).

Whew. I'm just still trying to figure out what I want to do with the bronco all in all.

Thanks for listening...

Colleen
