The other day when I went to leave school to go to work, I went to start my truck and just before the start position it got really tough to turn. I turned they key off and on a couple of times hoping it would free up what was jamming it. It was still tough so I tried to keep turning. It ended up snapping and now the key turns a full 180 degrees without starting my 89 bronco. all it does is turn the lights and all on that usually come on with the on position of the key. But, that is at the very end of the turn. I changed out the cylinder and it is still doing the same thing. One of my parents friends told me that he had the same thing happen with his Bronco a long time ago and it is the mechanism right behind the cylinder. He said he couldn't remember what it is called or how to change it. What is that part? Where can I find it? And how can I change it? I have been having to hot wire my truck to go from place to place so I need it fixed ASAP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If the key turns to allow the iginition to be in the run position and you can drive the truck after "hot wiring', the problem sounds to be in the iginition switch neer the base of the column, or the actuator rod.

The key just turns and activates a rod that goes to the switch. I would check that first.
