This is the first Ford I have owned as well as the first Bronco and the first time I have ever tried to replace the rotors on a 4WD.

I have the hub most of the way disassembled. I am using an aftermarket manual and tried to figure out the exploded view, but things don't seem to match very well. I cannot figure out what parts are called and what I am looking at that is left to removed. I am looking at the shaft and what appears to be two rings with square notches that appear to ***** or tighten against each other. I cannot find sufficient drawings and illustrations in any manual to help me get the last couple things out of the hub so that I can replace the rotors and reinstall the brakes and hubs.

Is there anyone who can help me with a few basics here on what I am looking at and what final parts I have to remove to get the old rotors off?

Thanks.

Make sure when you take those screws off in the middle of those screws there will be a washer with a bunch of holes in it and it will have a place for it to slide on the spindle and those holes in it will be used to line up with the back ***** because the back ***** will have a little *** on the side that has to line up with that back bolt if you dont get it lined up right it will come lose and it alot of money to get fixed when you take the bolts off you will see what i am talkin about it just a small little palce on the back bolt for that middle washer to slide on the *** has to line up with on of those hole so be sure no to tighted it down unless it is lined up .. and from there just take the brakes off and you go the hub when you put it on make sure it is slid all the way back on

How many screws are there in the hub's cover?

and;

it's a good DIY project; about 1 to 2 hours

And, too many articles show diff. Bearing lock nut Torque specs...must get to everyone to clear this up soon. I know Froggman will do a write-up soon w/everything needed + proper specs. & Lock nut socket tools/info; as Topher has done, see below...

------------------------------------

5 ***** Cover Swap by Topher: http://bronco.tophersworld.com/writeup_hubs.htm

btw, he was replacing bearings too so if you're not doing that, skip those & caliper and brake pads sections.

And no need to remove wheel/tires or jack it up.

and Chris wrote to me about the BEARING LOCK NUTS TORQUE; something other articles do not fully address well & offered this:

"Word for word from Haynes Manual

Ford Pickups and Bronco 1980 - 1996

Using a lockout spanner (ford # T59T-1197-B or equivalent ) and a torque wrench, tighten the inner bearing adjusting nut to 50 foot pounds while rotating the wheel back and forth and seating the bearing.

Back off the adjusting nut approximately 45 degrees.

Assembler the lock washer by turning the inner lockout to align the pin with the nearest hole in the lock washer. To lock it, install the outer lock nut and tighten it to 150 foot pounds.

Grab the top of the tire with one hand and the bottom of the tire with the other. Move the tire in and out on the spindle. End play should be less than .006
