I have a 95 Bronco EB, I just put a 4" lift on it. with 33" Baja Mud Terrians. I love the look but am hating some of the effects it is causing. In the past week i have had the Rotors, hubs, calipers and brakes, drums, and upper and lower ball joints replaced..they needed it so thats not the prob. Well the problem i am having is the truck is hopping, its been doing this since before i had all that done. The mech said the auto hubs are sticking and as long as i keep it out of 4x4 is will be fine, well it is still happening in 2whl. It feels like the passanger front is locking and the truck just starts hoopping around. Not the greatest feeling. The steering wheel spins, and i have no control, i have to manage to pull over and stop the truck, once the truck is stopped it is fine for about 15miles, or so and it will do this again.. Has anyone ever experienced something like this or heard about it..if so I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I have knowticed that my Radius arm bushing were pretty shot so i have order new ones and also a steering stabalizer, along with axle pivot bushing. just waiting for them to be delivered.

Thanks

EDIT; sorry, was rushed and just added some info in ITALICS

your key points;

had the Rotors, hubs, calipers and brakes, drums, and upper and lower ball joints replaced..passanger front is locking

truck just starts hoopping around.

here it is....what I think is the key clue, as far as being a likely (in my experience) & simple / quick check to start off with for heat related... ...

once the truck is stopped it is fine for about 15miles, or so and it will do this again

When stopped, after running it locally with no traffic, feel the passenger side hub area for extreme heat...wear a glove...

could be a bad bearing; did they inspect, clean, & grease the bearings? As well as spindle needle bearings, etc. when doing this brake job?

Did you have any service on the Hubs right before this began? auto hub bearing lock nut is to be torqued to only in-lbs. Some mechanics forget that these are the "new" (to 95/96) style auto locking hubs and torque that outer lock nut as if it is a manual hub.

if these are a-ok; next are the brakes/rotor and more that are heat related

also, any noises?

hubs... they replaced the Auto locking hubs?

I had the Rotors, Pads, Calipers, hubs, and rear drums replaced. This started before I replaced them, i was hoping replacing these would fix the problem. but it did not. My radius arm bushing are busted, I am having a Steering stabalizer installed tomorrow, along with new high perfo radius arm bushing and high pro axle pivot bushings. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

ok, I really believe you need another mechanic soon.

You should never have left the shop w/busted RA bushings's...under no condition! esp after having all that other stuff replaced.

One more check; do you have an electric Xfer case? That may be stuck in 4x4 high or low or engaging to them; does it hop mostly on turns?

okay...after turns; hubs could be locking hub and xfer case may be engaging; or both; this typ. happens on dry hard surfaces w/hubs engaged and Xfer case in 4x4 high or low.

Have him ck the hubs first (even tho they are new; and too much hub grease could cause a prob) and ck the torque on btg lock-nut.

Hub check;

1. Place transfercase in 2HI or Neutrall.

2. Lying under vehicle, turn front drive shaft (one direction only).

3. Automatic hubs should lock after 1 to 5 turns of driveshaft (one direction only).

After step 3 the hubs should lock, youll know they are locked becouse you will hear a click from both hubs and you will no longer be able to turn the front drive shaft (in the same direction). If this is not the case then continue to step 4. If you can no longer turn the drive shaft (in the same direction) then skip to step 7.

4. If you can still turn the drive shaft (one direction only) then one or more of your Auto hubs is not working.

5. Continuing to turn the Drive shaft (one direction only).

6. Look at the u-joints for the front stub axles, if both are turning then both front hubs are malfunctioning, if only one is turning then the one that is not turning is locked and the one turning is malfuctioning.

Replace as necosary (preferably with manual hubs, Auto hubs have Yams in them)

7. To unlock the hubs, turn drive shaft in opisat direction untill you hear a click from the hubs.

To check for transfercase engagement.

1. Place pushbutton transfercase in either 4 HI or 4LO.

2. lie under vehicle.

3. You should not be able to turn front drive-shaft in either direction.

4. If you can turn the front drive shaft then your transfer case is not shifting properly
