1996 Ford Bronco XLT

5.8 V8 4x4

How it happend: First off, im a NEWB at doing street tricks. (brake stands EXT.) So i was trying to do a brakestand and couldent get it. So i turned off my truck and went inside. Came back out 10-15 minutes later, got into the truck, started it, and went to put it into drive and NOTHING!

Problem: I put it into 'Drive' 'Reverse' '1st' '2nd' and it dosent go! Tryed to but it into 4x4 HI still nothing. (so that told me its NOT the tranny)

I think: I think its the torque converter, but i dont want to buy it if not need. Any ideas?

brakestands are very very ******* autos. if you go into 4 hi and still no dice, it is infact your transmission or an internal part of it that went to the junkyard in the sky. my money is on either the TC or front pump. if you blow the front pump, there's nothing to relay the energy of the fluid to your gears. its possible you blew out your TC, but that would normall cause the motor to stall out in any gear but nuetral ( because of the increased load of a seized TC). here's a suggestion. be smart with your truck. all you are doing by burning out is eating up your rear brakes, your tires, and your transmission. imagine all that smoke as little dollar signs floating away.

Do you have a CEL (Ck eng light)?

If do, have Codes pulled at AZ for free & post them here

if it has a P0500 OBD-II Trouble Code, this means that the vehicle's speed as read by the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not working properly

Symptoms may include:

loss of anti-lock brakes

the "anti-lock" or "brake" warning lamps on the dash may be lit

the speedometer or odometer may not work properly (or at all)

your vehicle's RPM limiter may be decreased

the shifting of an automatic transmission may become erratic

other symptoms may also be present

CausesA code P0500 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly

There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor

Possible SolutionsThe simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

Next, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly.

If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor. Again, the exact procedure wil depend on your make and model of vehicle.

If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.

check T.P.S.

miesk, no offense but i kinda need to disagree with your diagnosis. first, a TPS would more than likely cause the motor to run like poo, but not keep the trans from shifting. second, the VSS would still allow the trans and motor to operate, albeit screwy. at risk of tooting my own horn, if he can't get any movement out of it in any gear, it's internal
