i replaced the distributor cap for a new one and got rid of the coroded and very worn one today. i started the truck, it ran great for a minute or two with no hesitation like before, then stalled. now my truck wont start at all it just goes round and round. i pulled off all wires and re-checked the firing order and it was fine.

i am stumped. could i have burned out something with the better connection?

thanks,

jacob

Have you ever seen the movie... The Bad News Bears?

Don't assume anything... if you don't know how to check for spark, just ask.

Now.. I am going to bet that you do not know how.

Just pull one of your plug wires, stick an old or new spark plug in it, and ground out the plug to the block. Then have somone crank the engine. You should see the spark jump the gap of the plug.

IF you have no spark the first thing to check is to see that the wires are all seated tightly. It is possible that the coil wire backed off of the coil a little bit.

You also probably have an early duraspark ignition. You might want to do a search in these forums for duraspark

So I understand that your truck was running, perhaps not well, and the only thing that you did was change the cap, and now it does not have spark to a plug.

You have power to the coil.

Do you have spark from the coil to the distributor?

Probably not.

Did you check to make sure the coil wire is fully seated in both the coil, and the cap?

To check for spark from the coil to the cap, you test it in a similar manner, pull the wire from the cap, and hold it near a ground to see the spark jump, if you can't roll the insulation back, then stick a *****-driver or something into the wire end, and hold the metal part of the screwdriver near a ground and watch for a spark jump.

Here is a thread that a lot of people participated in that has a lot of info, that may be pertinent to you. Ignore all of the fuel pump discussion, but the checking of the coil circuits you should pay attention to. Followed by getting your ignition module checked.
