I have a 1990 fsb that’s in decent condition and an 87 that’s very rusted out. The 90 has a 302, AOD, and push buton 4x4. The 87 has a 300, C6, and manual tx case. The 302 is knocking and the 300 is in great shape. My plan is to swap the 300, C6, and tx case to my 90. I have a lot of questions about this too. I want to use the injection on it also. I know I’ll need the computer and wiring. I’m wondering about the wiring harness, amongst other things, for the engine. Can you pull the computer and just the harness for the engine and computer? Also, can I use the single fuel pump system on the 90 or do I have to convert it over to the 2 pump crap. I want this to be an easy swap and I know it wont. Any help or hints would be a great help. I may even have some good parts left over at the end.

yo!

Welcome!

I haven't seen this swap on the net or know anyone that has done it...yet.

Generally, you have the right path on EEC, harness..

For the fuel sys, you'll need the 300's pump, FPR, etc because of the PSI and Flow differences from the 5.0

For 90-96 5.0L, 5.8L and 7.5L EFI engines, the in-tank mounted high pressure fuel pump is capable of supplying 105 liters (27.7 gallons) of fuel per hour at a working pressure of 270.0 kPa (39 psi).

the 4.9L EFI engine, the pump can supply 90 liters (23.7 gallons) per hour at 380 kPa (55 psi).

re; "...Can you pull the computer and just the harness for the engine and computer?..."

yes and you'll need to figure out the nsors using some wriring diagrams, but by using the C6, you won't need to figure out the EEC wiring to it since it doesn't need it.

Will need to think more about all this..using diagrams and other research tools.

Look in my site under, electrical.. Wiring Diagrams to see if any are good to use;; http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=143

for the fuel and some engine sensors; look @ Wiring Diagrams & Component Location Diagrams in 86-96 Bronco & Fords; Agree and enter year, make/model, etc.

some old notes to validate;

need shifter column from C6

new seals

torque converter?

as sackman once wrote on a reverse swap (C6 to AOD, so just reverse this)

The flexplate from a C6 will not work with an AOD. Something to do with how far it draws the converter out of the front pump.

But, the AOD flexplate will work when swapping to a C6. <-----I've done this.

As far as converter goes, you gotta have one for the AOD, as they're different than the C6

radiator swap

Will try to come back tomorrow..

GL!

I think it would be best to try to keep most to all components together when moving the 300 to the 90 frame. for example the ICM on the 300 is mounted on the fender as opposed to the distributor mounted 302 and 351 efi's which also means the wiring harness will be different.

keeping in mind that these are both in the same year style bronco's all the 300 parts from the 90 will be a direct swap over to the 87 so you save yourself some headaches there.

I agree with the fuel stuff also. the 300 runs at about 10 to 15 psi Higher on the fuel rail then the v8 counterparts. so if the 90 is the single pump setup and wanted to keep it then you would have to swap over everything from the pump in the tank to the lines going to the fuel rail.

But if the 87 is the 2 pump then you just have to swap the high pressure pump on the fuel rail for the flow volume miesk5 said.

yo,

I was thinking of other parts that may need to be swapped or kept in storage for future use in the 4.9, such as MAP Sensor, etc.

You can find some of these parts and their Ford part numbers for the 90'ws 5.0 in:

Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Decal;

Contains Vacuum Diagram & Calibration Parts List for 88 & UP.

On-Line for Free at Ford.

Click "Quick Guides" in left panel; Scroll to & CLICK VECI Labels "Provides Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) and a related calibration parts list." Enter applicable info (need to know your Calibration number from your B-pillar sticker).

Vacuum Diagram is the same as the one on the core support or hood or air filter cover.

Suggest Right Clicking this Hot Link & Open in New Window by Ford at http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid=&kevin=rules

Since it goes back to just 88 you can get such parts for the 90, such as;

SENSOR ASSY., (Manifold Absolute Pressure) E7FZ 9F479-A and then do a google for that PN and see what other years it fits.

http://search.waiglobal.com/partnum.aspx?part=MAP1201

or at Ford.. http://www.fordparts.com

1987 Ford Bronco 4.9 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor

Part Number: 9F479 (CX-2403)

Part Description: 4.9L 300 CID 6 Cylinders; E7EF-9F479-A1A,A2A

then I selected 1990 5.0 and it shows same PN for it!

9F479 (CX-2403) Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor

5.0L 302 CID 8 Cylinders; E7EF-9F479-A1A,A2A $218.49

Unfortunately, someone or a group at Ford Motorcraft decided to revamp this on-line parts catalog; they lost all the Interchange and Buyre's Guide info in the process.

The Interchange would show you all Ford vehicles, years, engines and in some relevant cases, tranny / and/ or transfer case type a part would fit in.

Rockauto.com does have a similar parts catalog that does show the interchange guide.

but not for the Map... so, it's back to looking up each parts for each year/engine and seeing if they match.
