This is my first time doing brakes in a Ford. I've seen some strange things that I can only think were designed to give the dealer's service departments more business. $-)

I have a '95 4wd with the dana 44 axle and I do not have the HD Brakes

The Caliper mounting bolts go into holes that are occupied by small springs, I can only think that their purpose is to act a a reducer (but if that is the case why didn't they just design the holes to fit the bolts in the first place.

Anyway the top spring came out of the hole, and try as I might I can not figure out how to get the darn thing back into the hole.

If someone has the solution (I can't believe that I am the first this has happened to), please let me know.

Thanks

Steve

From your description, I would have to say that the "small springs" are in fact a type of "reducer".

My guess is that someone in the past has stripped the bolt holes.

They have been repaired using "Heli-coils"

A heli coil looks like a small spring, especially if it is pulling out of the hole.

are you talking about the caliper bolt that threads into the knuckle/caliper bracket? or the slide spring clip that actually hold the caliper in place? if its the bolt, thats a helicoil. what STLKIKN said. the threads were stripped by the PO, then tapped for the helicoil and the original bolt was put back in
