I have a '91 w/ a 5.8 and I am new to Bronco ownership and carspeak in general. Recently I had a lot of work done including new radiator hoses. Ever since then, approximately 150 miles, the coolant level has been getting low. I don't see any leaks and I've been topping it off when it does get low. Ran it with radiator cap off to get out any air and that didn't seem to solve the problem.

I've read in other posts that when there is a problem with the heater core there is a sweet smell that you notice. I don't smell this in the car but when I'm standing in front of the car I can smell kind of a sweet odor. Is this normal? Or do I have a heater core issue or something other issue?

Sounds to me like possible one of the hose clamps isn't tight enough. Probably not leaking enough to drip on the ground, but enough to loose coolant then burn off. Check around all the hose connections for signs of dried up antifreeze, and maybe give the clamps a twist to be sure.

Finally got around to getting this problem figured out. I checked all the places suggested and found no signs of leakage. Took it into my mechanic and he said it was leaking from the timing chain gasket.
