I'm getting ready to put headers on my 302 and the stock manifold bolts are very rusty. Any suggestions as to how to get them to come out? Would WD-40 or PB Blast work and just leave it on for a day or two?

I'd use PB Blaster and soak it several times for a couple of days. Then use an old mechanics trick, tighten first to break the rust weld. That preserves the side of the bolt head that you need for loosening. Once you get it to move work it back and forth which will help clear the crap in the threads. Back it off until it starts to get hard to turn and then run it back in a turn or two then back off again. Repeat that until the bolt is completely out. If you force it when it is getting hard to turn, you will most likely snap the bolt off.

Good luck,

:)>-

That is a very valuable piece of information to know, Fred. I wish I had known that a decade ago. Wouldn't Break Free be a better penetrant? Is PB really pretty good stuff? I haven't tried it personally, though I have seen it used a lot.

yep! PB Blaster is da bom!

btw, this thread reminded me to get more cylinders for the Micro Flame mini torch!

Heating after a few blast of PB over a day or 2 also helps a lot
