I have an 88 Bronco with a black hard top. The hard top is badly faded from the sun (It was a CA truck). Any suggestions for repainting or restoration? Thanks

I saw a bronco with a repainted top that the guy tried to use glossy paint.... it didn't look good at all(to me anyways). Try a bodyshop, if you don't have much dinero, try rattle can paint with the stuff in it to make it bumpy-ish. i think they make that...

I just went through the same thing with my 92. Here is the dope. The top from the factory was made in the tor top in the fiberglass. The original color is not quite sealed. If you try to repaint is with a flat black it will turn out splotchy. penetrating unevenly. the top must first be sealed before painting. Then it can be painted flat black. Now Keep in mind the more coats of paint /sealer you put on it the more defffinition you will lose on the texture and the more it will cost. I opted t have mine painted semigloss black. This worked for me since I had a semigloss finish on the raised section of the hood. at first I was not quite pleased with the semigloss toop but I am getting used to it.

Prior to repainting i got good results from a dressing made by Mothers. called back to black. This dressing lasted about 5-6 weeks. Good luck, Peter

I used a semi textuerd paint from my local auto paint supply store. Reason why is after I finished sanding the top and fixing all the cracks (after tipping over) it was way to smooth. I've seen the glossy smooth tops, don't look right unless its a show truck. But it is easier to clean than the textured stuff. Its all preference.
