i have a 8000lb chicago electric winch from harbor frieight ($280) and a 9500lb cummins industrial winch ($500) the harbor frieght winch has actually lasted much longer there was somethin wrong with the 9500 after about 15 uses. ive had the 8000 for 3 years and its been through alot. it comes with the mounting plate and a hawse fairlead. the remote is kinda cheesy though but it can be upgraded to a nicer one (here locally peirce sales henreitta, tx) $30. after long pulls-usually about 1 hour into a big stuck, i guess the solenoid sticks or somethin cause sometimes you gotta let it sit awhile before it starts workin again. for the price ya cant beat it although my next winch will be a warn for sure. also with a ****** block you can cheaply turn a 8000lb into a 16,000lb.

If I were you get a Warn or Ramsy 8000-9000#ers. They both make great winches and they are only a few bucks more. Call around for pricing. I never did like any of the others due to failure rates. When you have a winch you want it to work and last. I run a Warn 9000i electric and it does well but I've also had to use the ****** block to double up the power a few times. So don't get under powered, you want at least 8000#. Electric is a good way to go but does drain the battery and heats up the winch. Hydrulic will run cooler and last longer but only works if the truck is running. Also takes more work to install. Once stuck in the water and the engine dies, you can't winch.
