>:) I have a 1995 Eddie Bauer Bronco w/ the 5.0. problem is that I am getting a real loud roar from the rear and can feel it in the pedal. I took it to the Ford Dealership and they said that the rear diff would need replacing at a $1100 cost. They said some type of ****** was bad and the vehicle was soon going to be undriveable. I have asked around and heard that I could Swap the rear end, (axle?) with a wrecked or nonrunning bronco. Is this a good idea if so where could I find one and what should I know when looking, wll the 351's rear end work or just the 5.0. Please help, im really new at this stuff. thanks

You may use a rear end from either, as long as the gear ratio is the same as the one you have, or else you will have to change the front gears as well. If you have the original gears there should be a tag on the back of the differential telling your the gear ratio. Also, on the Safety Compliance Certification Label there is an axle code which should agree with the tag on the differential. The lable is on the driver side rear door post. A code like 18 = 3.08 raito, 19 = 3.54 rario, etc. Look at both and add a post to this thread with the info.

Good luck,

:)>-

If you don't have a tag, turn the axle 360 deg. (wheel off since this is what you will find in the wrecking yard) and count how many times the yoke turns so you can match it up at the junk yard. Are you sure its not a u-joint on the driveline thats bad? This is what allways fails and causes a vibration. If you're tough on the truck it could be the diff.

The axle doesnt have to be a bronco axle either it can be out of a 1980 to 1996 F150 or full size bronco . If the tag is gone you will need to remove the cover and there will be numbers stamped in the ring gear just roll it around till you find them there will be like a 41-10 and you divide the big number by the little number and that will be your gear ratio 41-10 is 4.10 ratio . The turning the yoke and counting how far it turns is unreliable I mean will you be able to tell 3.55 from 3.73 probably not but your T case will as its spitting its guts so its kinda important . Unless you have some weird package on your truck Id bet money that it is the 3.55 ratio . Im not sure what there talking about a ****** being bad unless the pinion nut has come loose and they didnt want to put a new crush collar in it for you and decided to **** you for the cost of a new axle and put in a 3 dollar crush collar . I have had the nut come loose before and its a **** of a vibration . You should take the 4 bolts off that hold the drive shaft to the diferential ****** and see if it moves side to side if it does try tightening the nut in the middile of the ****** iif its loose you will have to buy a new crush collar and replace it and getting it tight will be an experience for you . You can tighten it and get ya by for a little bit but it will come loose again . I wouldnt recomend driving it like that with the vibration as it will destroy the driveshaft and the last one I had redone with that double joint cost me $300 . But check the tightness of the nut and get back to us . If your close to Michigan I have a couple axles here 8.8s one out of a bronco and one out of an F150 sell ya either axle complete for $300 there both 3.55 ratio . Hope that helps :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I appreciate all the help. The rear diffs bearings were shot and it had warped the drive shaft. Runs great now though. But please tell me why my air bag light is blinking.
