I have an 88 bronco with a gas tank leak is there anyway to figure out the hole size before taking it off so i can get the proper sending unit since my gauge doesnt work either! There are 2 sizes a 2 inch or 3 5/8.

I believe you have an EFI engine with two pumps, one inside the tank and one outside.

I just looked at Jeff's Bronco Graveyard catalog and the only tank offered for your year Bronco is the 33 gal with a 2" hole, P/N 30214 (steel) or P/N 30212 (plastic). The sender unit for your year truck is P/N 30254 includes the internal pump.

If yur tank is rusted, your skid plate is probably on it's last leg and i would also order one of those P/N 30270 and probably the upper straps P/N 30272.

I only suggest Jeff's because that is the catalog I have handy. If you want to confirm this call them at 248-437-5060 o r 248-486-1760. they have compitent people on staff that can assist you and make sure you get the right parts. I believe they are there from 8 - 5 Central Standard Time.

Good luck,

:)>-

First of all, Welcome to the site.

Drop by the intro section soon and give us the low down on you and your rig.

Secondly.

I think Sea is correct.

Tank and skid plate replacement would be a good thing.

You dont really need to know the size of the current hole

in your tank. Just the replacement tank.

Just a suggestion but you may want to try and find a polyurethane(sp)

tank if you are having issues with rust also.

Lastly.

My wife wrenches with me so I respect that you are doing the same.

And I'm sure most of the others do also.

As for gear ratios and such. We can help with that to.

The hole size on my 88 tank is 2" and it's a 33 gallon unit. That should be what your's is, too. If you are interested in a used tank in good condition, send me a PM. I'm parting out the 88. I sold the skid plate and sending unit/fuel pump assly.

And I have a good friend who works on her Bronco and is restoring the interior. She won't post a question, just dives right in and fixxes whatever's broke. You won't be flamed for being female here!!! :)>-

Id recommend replacing the lower straps especially if they are showing a good deal of rust. I filled my tank full and one snapped and took the filler hose with it it, that was a BIG pain. I used BAND-IT straps since they are a dealer part ($$$$$$) Just my 2 cents though.
