I recently purchased my first E.B and I have a question. When the bronco is in the garage I get a strong gas smell from it. There is not any leaks or anything. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to minimize the smell.

I've done a ground up restoration on my EB including new fule tank new lines and new carb. and have the same prob. Everyone I've talked to says thats typical of carborated engines. Don't know if thats true or not but I have never found any fuel leak on mine.

I have heard of times when the fuel tank rots out to the point of being porous, but above the skid plate. So enough seeps through to evaporate and give a gas smell, but not enough to leak and give a puddle.

Of course that would not apply to Wild King.

I guess it depends upon HOW strong a smell of gas you have.

It only has a poly aux tank in it right now. I did notice some moisture around the fuel sending unit last night. Not enough to drip, but definately moisture. It must be seeping and evaporating

I was having the same issues and found my gas cap rubber seal was dry rotted and letting the fumes escape, I since replaced it and the fumes are gone

".....I get a strong gas smell from it."

This can be a "bad" thing ....especially if there's a pilot light near-by ....& the prob. evolves. :-&

That aux. sending unit could be the prob.

A l'il smell under the hood can be considered normal...as fuel seeps thru the air horn gasket.

You could check to be sure the top screws are snug on the carb/air horn.

Didn't some of the later EB's have the "carbon" canister...? (no info on your veh.)

Check all metal fuel line fittings...., they can seep, run down hill & be un-detectable visually.

Filter & rubber hose connections as well.

You'll find it... B)

OOPS...!.. forgot the main one...the fuel pump weep hole (like the water pump) (on the bottom)...it's their to warn you the diaphram is bad.
