Hi all. My bronco has auxiliary lights on the brush guard be they are not hooked up. I know they go through a relay but have 3 questions about wiring.

First of all, the wire that activates the relay, can I tap into the red/black wire that goes to the low beam side of the dimmer switch? ( my dimmer switch is on the floor)

Second, I want to put a fuse in the circuit. Should I put the fuse between the lights and relay or between the battery and the relay?

Third. the lights are 100watts. What amp fuse should I use?

Do you have a volt meter ? If so Check the wires to the dimmer with the key in the on position find the one thats got voltage on it now turn on your lights , turn on the low beams . Now go from the body ( seat bolt ) to either side of the dimmer switch which ever wire has power on it that is the one youl want to turn on your relay . Tha Fuse should be right after your power source and a 10 amp fuse should be just fine for those 2 lights . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yes, you can connect it there. That is the low beam side of the switch.

Place the fuse between the battery and the relay

Assuming that you mean 100 Watts each and you have 2 of them the fuse should be a minimum of 20 Amps and maximum of 25 Amps, (200Watts / 12 volts = 16.7 amps). The feed to the relay should be atleast a # 14 ga. wire but 12 ga. would be better with 14 or 12 ga to the lights.

Blade, just wanted to let you know that a 10amp fuse did not cut it. It blew the 2nd time I turned the lights on. But thanks for your other info.

Thanks Seabronc for your info. Just finished reinstalling and wiring my auxiliary lights. I only had a 10 amp fuse so I went with it. I will pick up some 20amps tomorrow and I should be good.

make sure that it is legal in your state before you tap into the headlights in NY no add on lighting can be controled by the head light switch(incluind the dimmer button) for state safety and emision inspection and it is a good way to get a ticket as well
