This is my first post. I am trying to help a friend with his daughters 1984 Bronco. They have a 1984 Bronco with a 302 w/carb and no fuel pressure. The engine does not have a mechanical fuel pump. Someone told him the fuel pump is in the tank so he dropped it and the only thing there is a sending unit (the tank has been changed) but it does have what I was told by the local parts store as a buster mounted on the cross brace of the frame. Based off what they said it could have been a late year model 1984 that they put EFI in and someone has changed the engine and now the fuel tank without putting the pump back in the tank. We would appreciate any info or advice. Thanks

Yo,

WELCOME!

re; "... as a buster mounted on the cross brace of the frame..."

I've been trying to figure out what buster could be but, a no-go

Unless the parts folks ID'ed it as an electric fuel pump?

If so, look for wiring to it and try to trace it back to a dash switch, or to a ckt that is powered when the ignition is on

And look at this;

Holley® 801 Installation in an 82 351W Source: by Tom C at austincc.edu

This was a popular swap to EFI

and here is Holley's Overview of its Holley 502 ProJection

Install Instructions

see if any parts look like they're on da Bronco; incl the pump & throttle body

they have a few addendums; such as:

ATTENTION!

Part Numbers: 502-20S & 501-12

Your system may contain a new style fuel pump that is not compatible with the fuel pump connector on the main wiring harness. If this is the case, cut off the connector on the main harness and use the ring terminals supplied with the fuel pump. The following is the correct wiring:

Red Wire – Positive (+) terminal on the fuel pump

Green Wire – Negative (-) terminal on the fuel pump.

==================================

Is there a block-off plate where the original pump was mounted?

=====================

other stuff that prob won't help but so you can discuss it all w/anthoer mechanic;

In 87-89 Two electric pumps are used on fuel injected models; a low pressure boost pump mounted in the fuel tank and a high pressure pump mounted on the vehicle frame

But Ford went to a single in-tank pump for 90-96 Broncos.

Hmmmm..,

Just a guess here but.., sounds like a stock carburetored 302 motor that someone removed the mech. fuel pump., & installed an electric pump.

If that "buster" pump can't be fixed.., a replacment may solve your problem. :-B

Probably the stock tank & never had a EFI pump in it.

Thanks all for the info! We have just decided to go with an inline pump and not worry about the old stuff.
