Is the pump on the frame rail running for a second or so when ever you turn the key to the on position? If not you might have a fuel pump relay problem.

yo,

You have a 89 and a 91, correct? So w/ 2 pumps this prob is w/the 89?

And you have had issues w/no headlights, etc at times and lose them or get them back on when running over a bump in the road? Was this ever resolved?

Test & Diagram at the Diagnostic Link Connector in 84-95; "...Connect FP Relay to any ground to force the fuel pump(s) on when the key is in RUN..." MIESK5 NOTE; from Ford EVTM; The Control Module (PCM) runs the pump{s} for one second when it receives an ignition- on signal. It also runs the pumps as long as it receives a PIP signal from the Hall-effect devices, it continues pump operation even after the key is released from START. If the PIP signals fall below 120RPM, the control module cuts off the signal to the fuel pump relay or the integrated relay control module. The pump will also run when the terminals of the fuel pump test connector are jumped. the Control module signals the pump when it receives a CRANK signal, and when the Control module gets PIP signals that the engine is running. the pump does not run if the PIP indicates the engine is not running even with ignition ON {except for that first one second}.

An assistant to write the info is helpful

turn off all accessories/lights, etc.

Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic)

Do Key On Engine Off (KOEO) portion

Look Codes up in my broncolinks.com site using the new Search function if in a hurry today.

And Post em here

Check for power at Fusible Link

Oveview of tips; PIP sensor in distributor. The PIP sensor supplies the timing pulse to trigger the TFI and injectors. a noid light will tell if the pip is working by flashing when the engine is cranking.

are you getting power to the pumps? if you replaced pumps and relay and getting the problem again check them for power...if you got nothing and as miesk5 had posted about your light problem you could have a short somewhere in the wiring...i know i personally had a lot of problems with the relays i always carried spares.

I don't have a light problem. There is only three volts going to the high pressure pump...... Do both pumps run through the relay?

Could it be possible for the wires to be shorting out near the pump in the tank?
