No Im not sure. I just bought the bronco and all I know is its not working. Is there a way of checking?No you can change the individual instruments. You best bet is probably a junk yard since the new ones are pretty expensive http://www.broncograveyard.com . Are you sure that the gauge is bad?

I noticed the gauge actually goes towards empty when you turn the key on. Any ideas?No Im not sure. I just bought the bronco and all I know is its not working. Is there a way of checking?
I'd guess that the gauge is working and that the problem is the sender in the tank or a connections to the sender. It is very possible that you have a bad ground for the sender unit. Use a ohm meter and check from the black lead to battery terminal (-). Grounding is the source of a lot of freaky problems in vehicles. In my shop manual, it says a 22 ohm resistor from the yellow white to a good ground should give 1/2 indication on the gauge, probably the same for yours.I noticed the gauge actually goes towards empty when you turn the key on. Tank connector wire colors:
Pink with black stripe = 12V to pump
Yellow with white stripe = connection to fuel gauge (around 5V)
Black = ground lead
These are from the 89 EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) Check the connections before replacing parts and then be pretty sure of your self, both ends are fairly expensive. Do not use a snder from a junk yard.
Good luck,
