The fuel gauge in my bronco seems to drift heavily after it gets below half a tank. The needle will sway from half tank to quarter tank and sometimes down to E, just from going from traffic light to the next light. I thought this would be fixed once the fuel pump was replaced. The truck has had the new pump for about a week now and the needle still flutters. Any suggestions on how to fix this small problem?

Thanks guys

The fuel pump has nothing to do with that. What year truck do you have and what engine is i it? Put your truck vital statistics i your signature, it will help with answers to your questions. In any event, the problem is most likely the sender unit, but check the connections for good contact. Also, the float you are seeing may also be from the gas sloshing around in the tank, especially if you see it during acceleration and deceleration.

Good luck,

:)>-

Could be a bad sending unit ground as well. Mine kinda moves when I floor and I come to a stop. Sometimes it ticks around and then resets itself.

my truck does the same at a hard acceleration or stop. I had my dad look at it(Ford Mechanic, 28 yrs.) and he says i'm just seeing the fuel slosh around in the tank, it is after all 33 gallons and only half full

fill er up every three days and dont worry about it
Ha ha...good one. I thought it was our responsibility as men to see just how far we could go on each tank.

On this subject of fuel senders, can anybody tell me if you can use an autometer gauge without having to change out the sending unit? I don't know what the proper ohm range should be...nor do I recall how to test it.
