fuel filter stuck

I went to do a simple task like change the fuel filter. Found out I needed a special tool, went and bought that. The line coming out of the filter popped right off; however, the line into the filter won't come loose. Any suggestions beside replacing the line from the tank?

probably one of the cleats ont the inside of the line is stuck take a small flat head ***** driver pry that behind th **** on the line then stick ur tool in and pull apart had to do that today on my cousins bronco changin the fuel pump goodluck

So I will have to cut the body of the filter off to be able to get screwdriver in to get the stuck finger, right?

these connections can get dirty and stuck for sure. one thing ford says to do is to relieve line pressure. but since one end is off then its just a matter of a stuck connector. i do not think you have to cut the can open to get a ***** driver down in there. the type of tool i have . i can tap on the end of it with a hammer and force it to go into these types of connections. you may try that.
