I am working on a 71 with the 302

the previous owner put in an electric fuel pump which I can't find reference information for it anywhere. When I run the truck fuel drips out of the accelerator pump where it meets the lever. This could just be that the carb is old and needs to be rebuilt. But my worry is that the fuel pump is the wrong pressure and replacing the selas won't fix it.

Any thoughts??

as of now I am thinking of rebuilding the carb and if it still leaks then looking into fule pump issue.

All I can say is that it needs to be a low pressure pump about 7 PSI. The dripping is probably due to the gasket in the accelerator pump being rotted. It wouldn't hurt to install arebuild kit.

Good luck,

:)>-

You could try one of the cheap, in-line fuel press. regulators.

They run about $20 at the auto parts stores. ('lil bigger than a silver dollar)

Some of those aft. mkt. elect. pumps put out way too much pressure.

I run the eng. driven pump & carry an elect. for emergency use.

It's also easy (& cheap) to re-install a stock pump...that my be all you need.

I would start out doing what Bob said, replace the original engine driven pump and bi-pass the elec. pump. See if that solves your problem. The low pressure pump will blow out if an aftermarket or high pressure pump is forcing fuel into it.

You don't say if you have a motorcraft or a holley carb, but with either too high of fuel pressure will cause the fuel to blow out of the vent on the bowl because the stock needle and seat will only handle about 7-8 psi. If you are leaking around the accelator pump the diaphragm is just dry rotted and needs replaced, this is a common problem. If you have more than 7-8 psi on the fuel pressure, or a holley you can run high pressure needle and seats and fix the problem, or run a regulator on the line. I think you carb just needs to be rebuilt....
