Have a whirring/singing noise coming from the front wheel(s). May be both sides but sounds like it's mostly coming from the right side. Seems to happen around 15-20 mph independent of braking. Happens especially when slowing down from a higher speed, but once you pass through the 15-20 mph zone on the slow down then speed back up to 15-20 mph it will happen again. Speed up more it isn't noticeable. Slow down below 15 mph and it isn't noticeable. I jacked the truck up but couldn't reproduce the sound cause I can't spin the wheel that fast. Both front wheels spin freely. I also jacked up the rear and put it in drive ran through various gears and speeds and no sounds so I'm fairly certain it's coming from the front. Truck has auto hubs with 3 screws. What am I looking at here? What could it be where should I start?

Hey F,

It could be bearings, but also could be the rubber dust shield on the hub grease seal. I had a high pitched squeel in my right front. Happened from speeds from about 15 to 45. I had to get an exacto knife and trim a sliver from the shield. It started about a week after I did brakes and packed bearings and installed new grease seals.

I found it by spraying a little WD-40 in the back of the rotor. Aim for the center of the hub, and be very careful not to get any on the rotor.

After I sprayed, I drove, and the squeel was gone......for about 5 min!

Try the spray. If it doesn't work at all you will probably be taking the bearings out.

Good luck
