happy holidays everyone . been using the 4 wheel drive off and on for the past couple of days bad weather in phila pa . well any way i have to tell you this truck is fantastic in the snow . coming up my street tonight i engaged the 4 wheel drive to get up my street looking for a spot to park the 4 wheel was working great like always but the when i was turning the wheel to the left making a hairpin turn where the ground was only wet it felt like my right tire was missing a few lugs nuts the feeling was like the right wheel was wobbling.then when i hit the snow it felt normal . so i went around the block again did the same hairpin turn with the 4 wheel off and it felt normal . any ideas would be greatly appriciated........thanks

This would be normal.

The front end is locked. Thus meaning your front right tire, is going to spin the same amount as your front left tire. When you make a sharp left turn, your left wheel is turning less to complete the turn, as it takes a less distance to travel. The right wheel has to travel at least double the distance. Make sense?

Anywho, so when on dry pavement, it will hop and act funny. Not good, so try not to do that as much..

Nope. If you can, try it again. Turn sharp on snow. Odds are nothing will happen. Then find a spot where youc an turn hard with one wheel on dry (or anywhere with traction) and the other on snow. It'll do the same thing again. ...actually all I'm really doing is giving you a reason to drive around - Everyone sometimes needs an excuse to drive their trucks in the snow!

Newer cars don't have this problem as much. The 01 pickup does it but the 09 pickup doesn't.

well now i am feeling better. as for newer trucks not having this probem they follow me not that i have a monster truck but i really do think the older 4x4's are better in the snow . .maybe its they weigh more and get better traction i really dont know or the newer ones dont have the tourqe but on sat night when i got out of work the drifts were up to my hood and i just went thru it like a hot knife through butter. thanks everyone for your help again .....and keep the shinny side up :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I wouldn't worry. Mine does the same in 4x4. I live in an apartment complex, and get the exact same thing trying to squeeze into a spot. But your right. My 96 is way better in the snow than my 02 F-150 ever was.

mine never does it when it hubs are locked and the transfercase is in 2H. only when in 4H or 4L . and if you are going to test it, at least go onto a dirt road or laneway instead of pavement. less likley to break something that way.
