Ive done front brakes on a few cars before. i just tried to replace

pads on my 1995 bronco and discovered it is impossible. I have a haynes

manual that has worthless explanations and picutes. very frustrated.

here's how far i got:

removed tires

using c-clamp: compressed piston into caliper.

that's it. after i did that the caliper became loose, but

the instructions indicated that it should come completely off. I couldn't

get that done.

any help appreciated...

thx,

danimal

I don't think the mounting has changed from my 83. Look near the bottom of the caliper toward the rear of the truck. There is a bolt that needs to be removed. Then you need to tap out the piece that was just released by taking the bolt out. After that the caliper will come off by pulling down and out. Reverse to reinstall.

Good luck,

:)>-

Well my 95 F150 has a different style than I had ever seen before too . You shouldnt have top compress the caliper till after you get it off the mount and thats only to put new brake pads on . Look at the back of the caliper there is 2 metric bolts that act as mount pins for the caliper to float on . Once you take them out that caliper will come right off . Im pretty sure if they did it on the 95 F150 they did it on the bronco also . I just did the brakes on mine and I cant remember if they were metric socket head bolts or regular metric hex head im thinking they were 12 or 13 mm hex head . Hope that helps . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

my 93 bronco has a keeper that is metal filled with rubber that has to be knocked out. there is one at the top and one on the bottom of each caliper. id say that what this one will have too. the rubber acts as a spring and expands the two metal piees to hold the caliper on. i use a flat screwdriver and tap on the until they break loose and then knock em out and the caliper will fall off. hard to explain but it is faily easy, if you know what youre lookin for. hope this helps j w

Thanks to all who responded. if i had to guess now,

id say that it's the two metric bolt issue. when i look at

the brake system logically - there are two bolts that seem

to be holding the caliper in place. i was afraid to take these

off because:

1) they look like ***** cylinders that will spill fluid.

2) the damn repair manual said and showed nothing about them.

perhaps because my bronco is a tow package, they used

a non-standard braking system?

anyway i'll give it a go this weekend.

thanks again,

danimal

No, you got the standard 95XLT Brakes like I do.

Just go through the book in the trash and get some pictures from a Ford Dealer when you need to do some work.

Then you will know how everything comes apart and goes back together.

If you plan on any serious work, look into getting a set of shop manuals and a EVTM. They are the best investment I have ever made in regard to my truck, well worth the expense. They often come up on ebay and for your truck, you may still be able to buy them from Ford.

Good luck,

Welcome to the Zone! >

Seabronc is exactly right! Get a set of shop manuals from Ford, they are still available. They are a little expensive but well worth every penny! Last time I priced them they were around $70.

Conclusion: BLADE262US was correct.

Took 15mins per wheel.

the bolts were 1/2 in.

Many thanks Blade.
