i got my driveshaft in today and well the truck has been sitting around for ten years and took the truck put it in fourwheel drive put it in reverse and it made a grinding noise was wonderin if you had to drive forwards in fourwheel then backup my dad said (was standing out in front of the truck)it sounded like the pumkin but i think the pumkin is fine, i can take it out of fourwheel drive and it is fine, also the locks seam to turn diffrently on both sides

check your front bearings on both side it would take the hubs off and take them apart and look at the bearings and see if the is any metal shavings , then if it isnt the bearings check the spindle bearings that would deffinatly cause the grinding noise when you put it back together make sure you repack the bearings these would be the case if it just does it when you put it in four wheel drive or u-joints if its more of a poping noise
