I'll be installing a new ring and pinion in my friends 89 Bronco. He bought what are supposed to be Ford Motorsport OEM gears from Randy's Ring and Pinion. I was looking at the gearset last night and noticed that they lack matching numbers and also, there are no depth markings on the pinion. Is this typical of Ford OEM gears?

Unless you have done this before, send it out. It may cost a lot, but it will be guaranteed and will be right. Setting up a rear CORRECTLY is a bear, and tolerances and adjustments are critical. I'm not saying a newbie can't pull it off, but odds are against em. You may miss a bent axle, contamination, etc.

If you're sending it out, make sure the shop knows what they are doing. I had them add an Eaton H/D rear while they had it apart for the pinion bearing. Much more aggressive rear, great for towing and overall performance. Final cost: 1200.00 Guaranteed 12k or 12 months. The owner builds race cars, so I knew he knew what he was doing.

I'm a happy camper.
