I just bought this beast to use as a ranch and hunting truck. 5 ltr auto with 33's.

It seems a bit sluggish on the accelerator to me but I'm not looking to run any races.

Is this just what you get with the 308 or is there something I need to check out?

Thanks, and seriously this is my first Ford. Always been a Chevy guy but all the K5's I looked at were POS.

yo GoWest,

WELCOME!

Broncos are not quick off the line; no aerodynamics and much weight = ....

I assume it is a 90 w/ auto tranny? and 5.0 (302 cubes)?

If so, Try a Self Test for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s by my pal, BroncoJoe19

http://broncozone.com/topic/14269-code-reader/page__pid__74587__mode__threaded

The engine temperature must be greater than 50° F for the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Test and greater than 180° F for the Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test.

Run it around to heat the engine up and shift thru all gears incl Reverse. Then turn off all accessories/lights, etc.

Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or in Neutral for a Manual & release clutch.

Do Key On Engine Off (KOEO) portion first.

Look Codes up in my broncolinks.com site using the new Search function.

And Post em here according to:

KOEO

&

KOER

JOE also shows a vacuum leak test, which is a good thAng to do.

=====

Also the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on when the electronic engine control system is not working properly. The check engine warning indicator comes on briefly when the ignition switch lock cylinder is turned to ON, and should turn off when the engine starts. If the check engine warning indicator does not come on when the ignition switch lock cylinder is turned to ON or if it comes on while the vehicle is moving, the system is malfunctioning

If the CEL does not light up at all when starting it; then suspect that someone removed it.

Check air filter; If no maint records are avail; check and replace if needed all filters and fluids.

Esp if it is an Auto tranny; fluid level; when at norm op temp; after running thru all gears & reverse; no burnt toast or whitish (water) deposits on dip stick.

Pull a few plugs and check spark plugs using this Diagnostic Chart, General; http://www.motocrossgear.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/plugdiag.jpg

Try a Sixlitre Tune-Up; "...Yes, stock timing is 10 degrees, I find optimum timing to be almost exactly 13.5 but you can play around until you notice ping and then back off 2 degrees if you want to, and/or tune by vacuum if you care to. Cheapest Autolites money can buy, nuthin' platinum, nuthin' fancy, just set out to .055 gap..."

GL!
