Hi, I'm new here and just want to ask a question. I just picked up an 83 Bronco for $100.00 and found that everything works except the drivers power window. I usually miss out on these deals but filnaly lucked out. The question. I have a 87 F350 rear axle that I plan to swap in and I may have a line on a F250 TTB front end. Has anyone ever swaped in a F250 TTB in a Bronco or F150? I know that most people like a strait axle swap but I like the TTB. I plan on a 4" lift with long radius arms and cut out fenders for 37 or 38" tires.

Thanks, Dennis

While the TTB in the Bronco is a Dana 44 model, the TTB in most F-250's like the 87 is a Dana 50 model. Similar design, just better in some respects. The f-250 rear axle is often a Sterling 10.25", but a Dana 60 from a 1-ton is more popular for a swap. Try a search on the Dana 50, and look in the Tech Articles forum for a link to Miesk5's Homepage with tons of info on Broncos.

Welcome to Bronco Zone!! :D/

not gonna happen. the beams for the D50 TTB and the D44 are different in length. you would have to do some major geometric mesauring to make sure all your angles and distances were correct. the beams on the D50 are longer than the beams on the D44, and dont forget that the D50 is also leaf sprung whereas your D44 is coil sprung. there IS a reason people just go for the one ton swap. easier and less of a headache

Thanks for the info. I was not warried about the leaf to coil swap as much other things lining up. I was told that I might be able to use the LD 3/4 ton outers since the LD 3/4 ton is a D44 instead of a D50. There are more locker options for the D44 anyway.

i'm assuming LD means light duty? unfortunately, pretty much the only thing that will swap over from the TTB 50 is the inner slip shaft. its much larger and stronger than the stock 44 slip shaft. if you want 8 lug outers, you have to use the 8 lug outers from a chevy 8 lug 10 bolt front axle

I had a 88 F250 light duty that had a Dana 44 in the front. The heavy dutys had the Dana 50. I,ll do some more research before I start buying parts.

Thanks for your input and I'll keep you posted on what I find out in case anyone else want to try it.

The quickest way to tell Ive found to tell the difference is to look at the passenger side stub axle that goes in the front diff . On the dana 44 the axle goes in and theres a c clip on the inside thats a pain in the ass to get off on the dana 50 theres a 3 bolt ****** that holds the axle in the diff . This is one very nice option on the 50 because you dont have to pull the diff to change the u joint . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
