ok so i blew my motor and while its out of the truck my options seem endless. i already cut off one cat and used a thrush welded muffler and noticed some gas milage increse. my question is can i get rid of egr, smog pump and the last cat without screwing up my computer?...it is an 89 302, and i dont need emmisions where i live. i am also thinking of heders while im at it.

i dont have the answer to that, but if you do remove the parts, hold on to them because they maybe hard to find one day as it took forever to find all emission parts for my '76.

I'm installing a set of headers so hearing that i can rip all those pumps and stuff off is awesome. Question though, why are you guys running cats? I was just going to put a 45 degree elbow off each collector and straight pipe it to the side of the truck, will this cause issues. And yes i am welding the O2 **** into it.

I've done similar things on my 91, no problems, ****, i even got rid of the pcv and went with a breather, so it occasionally puts out a tiny amount of smoke (oil fumes and blow by i assume) when it's really hot (less than a cigarette at worst, you never see it unless you look for it and the air is dead calm), big whoop, i'd rather not **** oil fumes and any blowby back into my intake (also you have to plug the hole in the intake) . computer honestly don't know the difference, and as far as the egr, two gaskets and sandwich a piece of aluminum beer can in between them, It won't **** in exhaust gasses, and the computer don't know the EGR valve is missing, neither will most mechanics at an inspection station. Also to help get passed emissions, a strategically located tiny hole in the exhaust can **** in clean air, diluting the exhaust in the pipe. CEL on and they won't pass it? pull the panel and yoink out the bulb, usually they won't bother hooking it up to the computer unless the CEL is on.

it applys a small amount of intake vaccume to the crank case, this keeps pressure from building up due to blowby and heat (hot air expands) for performance, well it only hurts it, it either sucks the blowby (combustion gasses that leaked past your piston rings) or oil fumes (from the hot oil in the pan) into your intake system
