Ive got a 302 in my '92 and right now ive got a single in- dual out flowmaster 40 series muffler. Its not as loud as id like it...actually no where near, but its ok. Whats the loudest i can legally make it. I've been thinkin about cutting the muffler off and putting in a y-pipe and runnin straights, but is there somethin else, and will there be enough back pressure to not mess nethin up

does anybody know if it would sound good to run cats only and no muffler on my dual exhaust, thats what im planning on doing right now, but im not sure if theres gonna be enough back pressure for the engine to run right, but i really have no idea, any advice...

If you have a functioning EGR valve, you need backpressure. If not, the less HP robbing backpressure the better. Of course, you may have some noise law problems. Cats were not designed for noise reduction, just to reduce the Co, NOx and HC in the exhaust.

Good luck,

> I live in West Virginia, got to have cats (but who said they had to have anything in it). I put a glass pack on it sounds ok I guess, would like it louder but what do you expect for a six banger. Can't run true duels due to the ox sensor. the wife says it's to loud now so that kinda makes me happy :))

Ditto on Bluseman17's comment. It is in the muffler design that makes the various tones. That's why there are so many Flowmaster, and other manufacturer muffler modles.

Good luck,

well i have a couple friends who are running cats only and i kinda like the way it sounds, really low n deep at idle, not too loud, but when u step on it its loud as ****, but some of the things yall've said are makin me rethink it, i kno its not the best thing, but i dont have the money for a full blown true dual exhaust right now, i think thats the only thing else i could do right?
