Hey Guys.

I own an 88 Bronco II V6 2.9L (rebuilt) 4X4 with a rebuilt transmission and had it for 6 years now with no major problems. My problem started in the summer while I was on the highway I notice that at first the gas peddle went loose and then the engine stalled with the engine light and oil light on. When trying to start the engine I could hear the fuel pump working fine and it would turn over but then die acting like no fuel was being pumped. So I had it towed and left it for a week. Came back to it and it started up fine and ran normal till I was home. I gave it a tune up, changed the fuel pump in the tank, and replaced the ignition module on the distributor cap. Ran great for about a week untill the same problem happened but I was able to get it started and made it home. Had the battery tested and it failed so that was replaced and ran great for 2 more weeks untill this evening. Same problem with the gas peddle going loose and lose of power from the engine.

Have no clue what to do and racking my brain about it. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you still have the CEL?

if so, try a self test for trouble codes; don't need to have engine running with this test;

Since the pedal is loose; ck the throttle control cable/or linkage depending on what fuel sys you have in it. Some diagrams of carb/or FI linkage/cable here:

I don't think that its the throttle because of the loss of power to the engine. Thanks for the EEC test and will try it as soon as I can.
