Well the old engine has final started goin out on me. The rear main seal is leaking very badly, so we've decided to go ahead and pull the motor. It is a 302 EFI. We are planning to replace all seals and gaskets. What suggestions do yall have to do to it while we have it out. We're on a limited budget and probably won't replace pistons, heads, injectors, and intake. It has a new PS Pump, a brand new A/C system, new ignition module, new plug wires and distributor cap. We've planned on replacing timing gears and chain, oil pump, all neccessary seals and gaskets, and putting a set of shorty headers on it. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

while i had the engine out i would also inspect the freeze plugs. any sign of rust or leakage i would replace them. if one of them were to blow out then your engine coolant would be gone well before your temperature gauge would see it. and you will lock the engine up. freeze plugs are very cheep

Check these links out, rebuild kits aren't that expensive, especially if you are basically just replacing worn parts.

http://www.greenbaypartsworld.com/f302d.htm

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/hm-performance/hm804.html

http://www.benzineonline.com/daewoo_lanos_...rebuild_kit.htm

that is just a look at a few. If you do a Dogpile search on "Ford 302 engine rebuild kit" (no quotes), you will get a lot of hits. Includecd in those hits is a book you should probably get on the "How To" process.

Good luck and have fun,

:)>-

Good news! Come to find out it's just the valve cover gaskets leaking badly. Thank goodness, but thanks everyone for your help and info.

Well upon further review, it's not the valve cover gaskets it's the oil pan gasket and it is a pain in the @$$ to get off. Then while working to get it off, it turns out that one of the motor mounts is cracked, one of the braces on the front suspension is cracked, and I believe that's all we found for now.

I have a question about the smog pump: What all is involved with removing it?

theres a one peice rubber gasket that summit carries that is around $40 but it is very nice and I have yet to have one leak and there reusable belive that it is made by SCE and then for the valve cover ford motorsport makes a valve cover set that 1/8th thick steel with an oring embossed on each side they just dont leak and there around $30 . Jegs or summit had them and also PAW carries them . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Well come to find out, both motor mounts were cracked, valve cover gaskets are leaking, timing chain is worn, and I think that's all for now. Hopefully that's all we find.

Money and time are the two big reasons and it's a daily driver and we're down to one car right now so we've gotta have it. We're looking for a good Windsor to rebuild and put in it.
