Howdy ya'll,

Thinking about rebuilding engine next year. Couple of questions, as I've never rebuilt my engine before...

If I have the engine bored and stroked, what would my best option be as to bore-over size? What size cam/connecting rod/piston size would be best?

And I've noticed a lot of the major car parts houses have 5.0 mustang parts/Ford Racing parts. Will these work in a Bronco? As I never owned a Mustang, I don't know if there are differences between the two 5.0 engines.

I'd really appreciate any links and info from you guys that have done this a few times! Thanks!

The average amount for a bored engine is .030 or 30 over, depending on where you have the engine bored they could tell you what to run in it. The mustang 5.0L is the same engine as the truck 302, so most performance parts would fit.

You need to be careful with boring as it can weaken the engine, not all 302 or 351 blocks were constructed equally over the years. As Firelt90 said, .03 is a common. I would suggest that you get a couple of books on rebuilding Small Block Ford engines. You can find them on ebay and on amazon.com. You can usually find them at most book stores also. There are alot of good suggestions in them and they will also give you some wisdom on what components to use based on what you want the engine to do. A good racing engine may not work out well as an off road vehicle engine due to the RPM range it is designed to operate in. You also need to consider the entire system, engine; transmission; gearing; and running gear components to keep everything matched and don't end up with a lot of "Snap, Crackle and Pop" :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

:)>-

I agree with Seabronc, if you're gonna play with one part, make sure the rest can handle it. Also you may want to gear it to give you more power off road and not so much speed, unless you plan to jump things like the General Lee :)) !!!

Thanks guys. I thought about the whole drivetrain. I know more HP would affect tranny and rear. How does it affect front differential? Is there a specific book you all could recommend that helps me determine gearing? Thanks!

affects your front dif in the same way when youre in 4x4. they can all take a little more power though, personally I'm going to keep putting more power in the engine until my drive line grenades, then I'll replace. But don't lecture me or worry, i have no money for more power so until then I'm just all hot air...
